Perhaps they had this place in mind when they tagged Pagudpud as "the Boracay of the North." It's got fine white sand, a good stretch of beach, nice clean waters, etc. There used to be a big resort facing it ... Hannah's Beach Resort ... before the lockdowns started due to the pandemic. It has not resumed operations since then. The place is a bit of a drive from the Pagudpud town proper, so be sure to bring your own vehicle. Also visit the place either early in the morning or late in the afternoon to avoid the scorching sun. And don't forget to bring everything with you ... towels, toiletries, food, drinks, etc. since there are no facilities around since resorts are still closed.

Not as fine and white as the sand of Boracay. Not as azul crystal clear water as of Boracay. Everyone will agree on it.... But Pagudpud (Blue Lagoon) Beach has its own beauty to capture tourist. No need to be tagged as the Boracay of the North.

Blue Lagoon is a spectacular piece of beach, especially, if you just close your eyes or pretend that there is nothing behind you while you look at the lagoon. The water is blue and it is protected from the ocean. The water is clear and the swimming is great. I have been here before, before Hannah's Resort was built. Although the place is beautiful, it is also made it ugly by the haphazard way little huts were situated at the outer edge of the beach. From the road, it hinders the natural beauty of the lagoon. But beyond these ugliness, the lagoon is still beautiful. Just don't look at these ugliness and swim and immerse yourself in this beautiful lagoon.

We always went to Blue Lagoon back when I was a child. I remember clear blue and green waters, white sand, palm trees and huts.

Went there yesterday and didn’t stay long.

The beach is very small compared to other stretches of beach but resort owners couldn’t even clean up. Broken glass, plenty of plastic litter the shorelines.

What’s worse? How commercialized the place has been. Two big resorts are in the place—Hannah’s and Maira-Ira Resort. Hannah’s, the first big resort there and the only place that seemed to have a decent restaurant, does not give quality service. We ordered food, took too long to serve, did not have seafood on stock, food was not good and our pancit canton had ants (the ants got cooked with the noodles). The thing is, people did not seem to have any choice but to go to Hannah’s Resto as there aren’t too many food choices in the place.

Maira-ira is terrible. I feel environment laws have been violated. They flattened one side of the beach and built residences much like condos. Then they put up hundreds of character statues that screamed TACKY and CHEAP. (I remember that Hannah’s also have statues and what nots. Tacky also.) With the number of people renting their ugly cottages and the P100 entrance fee, you think they’d offer a better shower option. But NO. The bathroom, 4 doors of toilets and 4 doors of showers, had poor lighting and dismal water supply. DISMAL.

We left after two and a half hours... Almost the same time as the drive going there. :( I won’t come back there until authorities clean up and do what they did to Boracay there.😔

I stayed in Pagudpud for three nights and two nights in Vigan as well as two nights in Laoag City. The aim was to try all the different type of accommodations in the northern part of Luzon island in Ilocos Sur and Norte from hotels, pensions or pousadas, and homestays. In Vigan, I stayed with my two dogs in Hotel de Salcedo which was excellent along with Felicidad Hotel but the latter won't take dogs. In Laoag, I would recommend Balai de Blas, and in the Blue Lagoon area of Pagudpud, I would categorically recommend Alliyah's Transient House over Hannah's Resort and Kapuluan Vista Resort.

Alliyah's Homestay is run by single mom, Marilou Acido, her daughter Alliyah, and her mother. Its run by three generation of women of very humble background but the owner worked as an OFW in South Korea as a factory and with her hard earned savings of $10,000 put up a two room bed and breakfast in the land owned by her mother which is part of a bigger 2 acre parcel bought by her great grandparents back in 1953 for P120 or $3.00USD.

Now there are other places you can stay of course since Pagudpud's lodging runs the gamut of homestays, resorts, and hotels. If you want that commercial Acapulco feel of big resorts, head over to Hannah's which has its massive amount of cookie cutter cottages run by a corporation who had to sense how to promote ecotourism in the area with their all terrain vehicles running all over the front of the lagoon polluting the air with exhaust, their jet skis polluting the waters, and their big Hannah or should I say Hollywood sign marring the hillside behind the beach. I just don't like corporations making the locals feeling like strangers in their own hometown. Minimum $100usd per room.

Kapuluan Vista Resort was the first resort in the area run by two Filipino American expats which has that eco chic style with zen like resto bar with lounge reggae playing in the background, surf instruction and surf board rentals, a little yoga zen garden, a small pool for children and nicely appointed rooms. The owners did their homework and is a nice alternative for a bigger budget but it will not give you that local Ilocano experience of actually interacting with the locals who have been there for decades. Minimum $70usd per room.

Which brings me to Alliyah's Transient House just down the beach from Hannah's and 100 meters before Kapuluan Resort. Don't let the rustic look of the place fool you. Marilou, her daughter, and mother are all very gracious host and you will instantly feel like family. We booked two nights with our dog for $60USD or about 2500 pesos. She even cooked us two breakfast, two lunch and two dinners for P500 or $12 USD. And the vegetables and fruits came from the family garden in the back or from their house in the city center. You can pick the vegetables and help her prepare the meals in the kitchen. We enjoyed so much that I gave her daughter P500 for helping me take care of the dogs by playing with them and walking them and P1000 extra for Marilou so she can buy some nice flags to put on a bamboo stick to put in front of her resort. They were that hospitable that I felt I should have given them more money. And being an trained academic, I totally enjoyed the education on local culture and also her personal journey coming from a very poor family, leaving her family to work in South Korea, and returning three years later as a single mom to put up this humble home stay.

You will not be disappointed. I will definitely come back to this place if just to bring some paint to paint their building. That's how much I love the story of this establishment.

We went here last jan 2015. From Paoay it more or less 2-4hrs travel time by a public bus. I feel lil bit worred cause I am seeing expensive hotels in blue lagoon but when we get there. There lots of place to stay from home stay to transient houses and even the hotels we are lucky enough to see Jay Henry's transient House. A very good place to stay. Henry's place is new and affordable. Kuya Henry the owner welcome us and treat us like a family he even offer us their own kitchen so we can cook fresh fish. If you are going to blue lagoon look for Kuya Herrys place you will surely love it. :)

I had seen great comments about this beach, even comparing it with boaracay. Not ever. The beach has only one small stretch that is usable, the rest is rocks with little sand. The usable part is in front of the hideous Hannah's resort, and is covered with day bungalows where the locals spend their day with the food and booze they bring from home. The whole strip is run down, with half built houses and dirt everywhere. There arejust a few restaurants where one can eat average food. There are a number of hotels with inflatd prices. The sand in the beach is grey and coarse, not the white powdery sand that some people rave off in their self-serving website. One day here is enough. Tomorrow off to Saud Beach, to see if it is better....

I've been to blue lagoon 4 years ago and was so excited to go back. Im in shocked to see that Hannah's resort occupy almost the whole beach. The worst part is they put anime statues which is totally non sense and irrelevant.I dont understand why the local officials allowed them to do so. It is such a shame.

The place is crowded and useless. Dont go waste your time here.

The place is a mess, overcrowded, dirty...its a chaos.
The beach is dirty, a lot of garbage and sorts of refuse along the beach.
City government is charging for an entrance fee, but is not using those funds to keep the beach in order.

Beautiful beach but some of my companions made an inspection as to where the sewerage system is and found out that all waste goes to the water. Go to Saud beach instead.
