One of the deceptions experienced by seasoned beach combers around the world is the tendency to build hotels that encroach on natural environments, lessening the positive impact of beautiful beaches. Mayapo has not been a victim of this global tendency (yet) and is still a great place to see the New World pretty much the same as Columbus and the other people who colonized us did.....The Guajira Indians, called "Wayu" are the inhabitants of this arid region located in the northeastern part of Colombia. They are friendly, do not communicate much, weave beautiful tapestries, bags, hammocks, and helpful to tourists if not pressed for conversation. To get to these beaches you must hire a cab, rent a car, or like bike riding. There are some restaurants in the area run by Guajiro families, fresh fish, rice and salad...nothing fancy. Many young surfers, sail surfers, all kinds of beach enthusiasts from all over the world come to these beaches to get "a feel of the wild side".....I recommend staying at a good hotel in nearby Riohacha and taking a cab for a day trip as an alternative to seeking a place to stay the night in the Mayapo area. Definitely worthwhile if you are into uncivilized natural beaches.

In my opinion some of the prettiest beachs in Colombia. Spend a day relax, enjoy, and eat the fish that is prepared and sold right on the beach.

I don't recommend...? Very disappointed we took a taxi from Riohacha 160,000 pesos round trip the taxi was not suitable for the road... when we arrived, young men blocked our way to direct us to restaurants places squatted by very poor families dirty and very expensive a tourist scam. Dozens of street vendors harassed us to the horror!
The water was not very clear and the beach was disappointing. I asked the taxis to go back and the young men on the road insulted the taxi driver because we had not consumed enough!
This is a tourist scam.

An amazing beach!!!. The water is pristine and the sand is soft. They have "comedores" where you get parking and lunch. You need a car or a taxi to get here. The lunch was delicious. You get to pick your fish from 5 different types. Enjoy the people and nature.

Mayapo is located around 25 Km away from Riohacha, it is plenty of restaurants and some hostels, also you can find some kitesurfing activities as the place is very windy.

Unusual to see hardly anyone around, We went right up to this place with a Bora Bora club, the bar was just opening open and there was only the barman and one customer ( drinking fruit juice) . The beach was vacant except for one fisherman trying to fix his out board, and a woman with a couple of kids. the water felt great on such a warm day.

35 minutes from Riohacha on a road still under construction. Along the way you find few "tolls" of Wayuu children, just share some food with them, bring water and cookies. They are not hostile. When you arrive in Mayapo you will find very tired people at the entrance, they just want to take you to their friendly restaurant. You can pay attention to them or not stop and continue to the bottom, choose any restaurant and park. Ask from the beginning whether or not they charge you for parking and chairs. The place is heavenly. Beaches still beautiful and unpolluted. You definitely have to go. It's safe to go. The Wayuu that you may encounter on the road are not hostile. Just share one food and that's it. The food is not expensive for such a remote place. You can eat chicken for 30 COP or fish for 40 COP. We must take advantage of this beautiful place before tourism destroys it. Take any trash you bring with you.

We were with my family on these beautiful beaches, they are located about 40 minutes from Riohacha, it is a spectacular place, the service is excellent, very clean, the prices are quite comfortable, and with very friendly people, it is a place to disconnect from everything and enjoy, there are many things, sale of products such as bracelets, necklaces, massage service, sale of backpacks, bathing trips among others, there are taxis that take tourists there and you can agree on the pick-up time, Mr. Antonio provides taxi transportation service to the airport, within the city or to go to this paradise, highly recommended cell phone 3017415501. It is really worth knowing this place.

Cuánto cuesta un transporte de ida y vuelta del hotel wuayira beach hasta riohacha
Written 23 November 2023
Hoa,se puede ir en bus local desde Palomino? es facil?
Written 25 October 2018
No José. Debes llegar a Riohacha primero y de ahí contratar un taxi que te lleve y te traiga de vuelta a la ciudad. A mi me cobraron 70.000 mil pesos.
