This museum is well worth a visit. It captures well the rural life of Madeira in times past. The video showing the hand centric methods of gathering cereal is worth a highlight. The museum is also - apparently - the only example of a mill...More

A museum full of local life and colour. A great insight into life on the island with clear and interesting displays. There was a local lady weaving who was happy to chat; little figurines going about their daily tasks; and many full size items to...More

Yesterday we visited Ribeiro Brava - a pretty little town near Funchal. We had read about the small museum which was once a private house originating in the 16th century. The museum is well laid out and each exhibit is explained both in Portuguese and...More

Saw a sign and thought, on a rain threatened afternoon that for €3 it was worth a visit. It certainly was. It gave a fascinating insight into life on this island, its agriculture, fishing wine production till quite recent times. What would make a good...More

Well worth a visit to get a good idea of life in the area over the past 100 years or so. Good labelling of exhibits in English and Portugese.

Loved this little gem of a museum. The collections within fleshed-out the history of the island's traditional life.. Its all here... the origins of espada fishing, wicker weaving and wine production, even toboggan transportation are excellently detailed. Lovely feeling inside and outside where we pursued...More
