About
Queen Elizabeth Park is the last area of natural dunes on Kapiti's coastline. Once part of a swathe of duneland stretching from Paekakariki to Foxton, the park reminds us how the coastline appeared before large-scale human settlement. Greater Wellington Regional Council is working with the community to protect and enhance this environment while providing a great place to enjoy the outdoors. With its 650 hectares of easy terrain edged by a sandy beach, Queen Elizabeth Park has plenty of space to enjoy swimming, fishing, walking, cycling, horseriding, picnics or group activities. The park is steeped in history including pa sites at Whareroa and Wainui beaches and evidence of the 20,000 strong US marine camps from World War II The Tramway Museum is situated near the MacKays Crossing entrance, with historic trams running on the 2km line to Whareroa Beach.

A fantastic afternoon walk with stunning views, good parking, nice trials with fabulous scenery 360° from the ocean to the mountains and a really nice breeze.

This is a wonderful, well-maintained park which covers quite a large area. It offers lots of opportunities for walking and cycling. All the trails are well sign-posted. My favourite was to take the coastal walk to Paekākāriki and then return through the park.

Queen Elizabeth (QE) Park cover the wide stretch of land, a beach front, from Raumati Beach at the north to Paekakariki Beach at the south with MacKay Crossing in the mid, some more than 3 km distance. It is huge park with plenty of things for anyone. Visitors can do walking, running, cycling, picnic, swimming or simply relaxing in the beach front enjoy the sea and Kapiti Island at the horizon. Plenty of walk and cycle tracks inside, between huge abundance mature trees, toilets at the beach front, with benches and tables, just great. For information, it is open from 8am to 8pm in the summer and then the park is locked at night. The south end is next to Paekakariki Holiday Park.

There are many trails for you to select. We chose the wetland loop that was pretty easy to walk. No dogs are allowed for this loop.
If you use the Mackey Crossing Entrance, you can go to the Tramway Museum too. It is a free museum with a trams run throught the Park entrance to Whareroa Beach.
It is very different from the other Queen Elizabeth Park in Masterton. This one is more nature.
If the weather is good, you may spend a day there!

Wished we'd had longer here as it was gorgeous and tranquil - we were en route to a ferry crossing and only had a short time but we really enjoyed our brief visit. Very picturesque/photogenic. Well worth visiting even if only for a short time!

Stoppd for a couple of hours on the way from Wellington to Palmerston North. A great little park and it seems to be one of the few natural areas left on the Kapiti Coast. Nice dunes and beach with a few wlaking tracks throughout. A pleasant little stop to relax and enjoy the coast.

We took the four year old and the dog (on a long lead), the pop up tent and a chilly bin of food.

Happy days. It's easy to find, heaps of parking, and the beach is huge so lots of options for where you plonk yourself.

Water so much warmer than in Wellington so we felt we got a proper day at the beach with swimming and digging in the sand, eating food that inevitably ends up with sand in it. Classic.

My partner and I take our dogs here quite frequently and it is a great place to walk them and everyone is always so friendly and we never get bored of finding different trails to walk

A beautiful place and while walking along the beach or the walking track you really feel away from town and city. The tram is great fun for kids.
