A site of historic importance where a Jewish battle against the Romans took place. Today the remains of that ancient city is an archaeological site on the stunning mount Gamla. The site is accessible via a long steep hiking trail, or you can admire it from a great viewpoint where there is an excellent audioguide. Another hiking trail leads to a scenic area with the longest waterful in Israel. During our visit we were lucky to see two vultures in the area. The site offers good facilities for picnic, water supply, parking and more. A visit to Gamla is highly recommended.

Gamla National Park affords great views of the ancient city. We arrived too late to hike down, but the audio explanation at the lookout point was very good. The lookout at the vulture area was very disappointing. No real explanation and no opportunity to see the vultures. The man at the entrance selling tickets (and refreshments) was gruff and unpleasant. Good restrooms are available.

I've been there several times and always enjoyed it a lot.
But this trip was in October, at the end of the dry season, so the falls were rather weak.
The previous times I was there in Winter and the falls were definitely impressive.

So my recommendation is to try of course visiting it during the rainy season and then it is worth a 5 star rating, but if it has to be in Summer, then there are other Nature Reserves more worth your time in this regionSo sad!
Not my first time here, far from it, but then we had wildlife combined with super landscapes, the walk to the fall and the archeological findings.
A superb combo.

Today, after the vultures have almost all been poisoned by the farmers of the region, we remain with the landscapes, the fall and the ruins.
They are beautiful, they are worth your time, but the disappointment is there.

So if you don't expect wildlife as I did, I believe you'll fall in love with this site as the landscape and the views are really exceptional..

First, you have to reserve entrance earlier, via the Website of the National Parks, then entrance is very quick and easy, good parking and refreshment options and good toilets are available, in all cases, you need to take water if you are going to visit the ruins or the waterfall.

Views are amazing and also you can see eagles or other little animals.

Worth visiting

We got to the Gamla reservation in a nice winter-sunny weather - took a while to get in (long queue of cars) but was totally worth it! the way to the fall is beautiful (and also - muddy :-) bring mud-proof shoes) and not too difficult for a family with small children! the fall itself and the ravine that holds it are breath taking!

This ridge top walk is one of most spectacular hikes in the world for history buffs, birders, and anyone who enjoys dramatic scenery. It's an easy walk along a ridgetop to the fascinating ruins of the ancient Jewish village with spectacular views of the Kinneret/Sea of Galilee and good birding the whole way.

Very interesting historical site in Golan Heights. Lesser known then Masada, it has the parallel history of Masada. Also the sight of the oldest synogogue discovered in Israel.

I think the attached photos will show how interesting this reserve is. There are a few different routes to walk some difficult some easy. We also saw some wonderful eagles flying around. The choice is yours!

Just go and wear a hat if it’s hot - we did the vulture walk but there are kids and mist lead to waterfalls

On a day trip to sea the water in the Golan Heights, we hiked 40 minutes to the waterfall in the Gamla reserve. The hike is easy, a bit muddy right after the rain. The whole area is covered in spring flowers now and the waterfall is amazing.
