Palanok Castle Chronicles
Nov 2021
On November 10, a new exposition "Palanok Castle Chronicles" was opened The exposition tells about the history of the castle from the time of the first mentions to the present day in an interactive and interesting format. The concept aims to highlight three main elements: the construction of the castle in different eras, events and figures that influenced its history and development. Each element of interactive design encourages to learn the story and transforms the visitor from a passive spectator to an active participant in the exhibition. The exposition invites the visitor to immerse themselves in the historical events of the past: to feel like a defender of the walls, to try to conquer the castle or to become a medieval architect-builder. For this purpose, an interactive block of the digital exposition “Palanok Castle Chronicles” will be useful. It combines texts, graphics, 3D reconstructions, images and much more in a convenient and accessible form, which can be literally touched on touch screens. The exposition was created in cooperation with the projects "Palanok Castle Chronicles" and "SmartMuseum as a way to present cultural heritage" The project "SmartMuseum as a way to present cultural heritage", HUSKROUA /1702/3.1/0026 is carried out with the support of the European Union in the framework of the Hungary-Slovakia-Romania-Ukraine ENI CBC Programme 2014-2020. The project "Palanok Castle Chronicles" 4REG21-29851 is implemented as part of the “Culture. Tourism. Regions” program jointly organized by Ukrainian Cultural Foundation (UCF), and State Agency for Tourism Development of Ukraine.

So we went to the Castle which is a 15 minute ride on the bus. Then you walk up the hill to get there. The cost for admission is cheap $ or 5 Dollars I forget. The place is huge and every room has detailed descriptions . There is a restaurant which serves Classical Food from the era. There are Dungeon Rooms etc. We spent over 3 hours there and you can make a day out of it to really take in the History. Ukraine would have a King living there and then Hungary or another country would attack , kill the king and take over. Zakarpatskaya area is fertile and very desirable to own.

The castle is nicely renovated. Several small exhibitions present the history and most famous stories of Mukachevo and the castle, e.g Rákóczi era, ancient history of Mukachevo, the painter Mihály Munkácsy, the poet Sándor Petőfi. The view to the city is great, worth to go up to every bastion. Some English audio guide would be practical to learn more about the castle and the city, or some English tour guide.

The Palanok Castle is located on a hill overlooking Mukacheve City and surrounding area. It dates back to the 7th century and served as a fortress, a palace, a prison and now as a tourist attraction. There is an interesting design of the protection circles and also additional historical artifacts.
Entrance fee is 1.5 Euros, I recommend hiring the services of a local guide (about 7.5 Euros). This can be an interesting experience with a local guy (or lady).
At the end of the tour go down to the local bar/cafe and try the local Palinka (local Vodka), I recommend the one with plums (65% strong and very good) that is 5 years aged in the bottle.

Wow, really enjoyed the day touring in the palanok castle in Mukachivo. this is one of my favorite in mukachevo. The river cost just downward of the palace also a beautiful place to walk around but Palanok is the best and the historical part of the palace is so fascinating. This big place takes around a couple hours of time to complete tour and so wonderful side of the torture room is so incredible. The view of the mukachivo from the top of the palace another sweet part as well. the flat mukachivo is so wonderful with its greenery view. While day here in there and in and out every little part of this castle and the infos about those preserved things and property of the royal families are so unique and have preserved uniquely. This is just so interesting architecture. The safety part of the castle gate is so incredible, it is all just extraordinary to see all the things here in palanok castle. Even the most lovely to see with those thing what else the royal family would use in the the castle are so amazing. I so recommend to you guys to travel the palanok castle in mucachivo in Western Ukraine. It is a real worth part of anyone's travel.

Castle is easily accessible from the town center by bus, not more than 15 minutes ride.
Nice historical building, well preserved walls, towers and ramparts, it gives good insight into the turbulent history of that part of Ukraine and central Europe. It has really nice Medieval atmosphere while you are walking through the numerous halls and stairways.
Also, there are several points with great view of town of Mukachevo and surroundings, since the castle is built on the top of the hill in the middle of the lowlands

Nice castle with many small exhibitions inside (torture chamber, military history, some art gallery, souvenir shop etc.). You can buy some food there too. Good entrance fee and of course nice view. You can park below the castle and way up there is quite short, about 15 minutes.
