The site is small but not heavily visited so we almost had the place to ourselves. It's also well- preserved. Bring a guide or your own background materials as it is not signposted or explained anywhere.

Penataran Tempel located 11 km north of Blitar. Consider as the biggest Hindu Temple in East Java. Whole temple complex is very well preserved (buried under Kelud volcano ash could be on of the reason). On the west side of the complex there is square wall depict Khrisnayana story. The temple is open everyday for public.

A well maintained historical temple complex, nice to see the lawn within the complex. Very hot during daytime, good to visit in the morning.

Candi Penataran (Penataran Temple) is the biggest Hindu Temple in East Java. The temple is great, clean and easy to find from Blitar, around 10 km.

Penataran Temple is one of ancient historical building for Hindus. It is located around 15 km to North of Blitar City. The temple cover about 10.000 sq m. The temple it well maintained, although not perfectly due to possible limited funds. Overall, if you love ancient history, it is worth to see.

The first time I came here was during school trip. the last time I came here to see Purnama Seruling Panataran, the attraction during the full moon last November. There are some Hindu temples here such as Naga (dragon) temple and Angka Tahun temple. and here you can see lots of reliefs about Ramayana, Sri Tanjung, and Cerita Panji.

The temple was actually old, but the Dinas Pariwisata (Tourism Department) is able to maintain it and to make it looks so lovely, tranquil, and make us feel comfort to be there. Yesterday (August, 15th 2015) My boyfriend and I visited this temple and we feel that it was sooooo wonderful to meet such old temple rightly on a center... More
