Nice to see - no need for a guide

A bit long drive from mardin town, but worth to see if you have time and a car. No need for a guide.

It's a little out of the way,you need car to reach here,I don't know about transport options.Ruins are mainly cemetaries,it looks little like Cappadocia. You should also visit water cistern nearby the main ancient city site.

This is Mesopotamia. The ruins are worth visiting just from a historical perspective, and the necropolis is impressive and fully excavated. The cisterns too are an engineering masterpiece, but don't expect to see the city, most of which lies beneath the soil and silt of...More

The children who go to High school in around villages are good guides for taking you around. They ask for a drink money or a sandwich money. And the ruins somehow reminded me of Mayan ruins in Yucatan, Mexico. The Turkish government is working on...More

located within walking distance to the Syrian border, dara may be a bit hard to reach from mardin. I ended up hitch hiking along the main road. Located in the Mesopotamian plains, dara is a striking contrast with nearly Turkish topography. A feel of goreme...More

Strolled around for a couple of hours and could explore the necropolis and the cisterns. Dont be afraid from the nearness of the syrian border and do not miss the area on the left side of road before entering the village of Daera.
