The lake is very nice. The water is fresh but enough warm to swim and get pleasure. But I didn’t like that you cannot reach the water easy because there are a lot of closed areas and fences. Even if you get the beach it will be a small short peace of shore. But the lake is worth to visit it.

Having spent about eighteen months on and off exploring this most amazing body of water which forms part of four international boundaries between Tanzania, Burundi, The Democratic Republic of the Congo and Zambia.
A number of national parks can be found around the lake including the Mahale Mountains National Park and Gombe Stream National Park where world renowned researcher Jane Goodall spent many years studying chimpanzee's in their natural habitat.
Lake Tanganyika is the longest lake in the world at around 500 miles and over a mile deep is the second deepest lake in the world and holds about 18% of the fresh water on the planet.
There are a number of resorts and lodges around the Lake including Lake Shore Lodge, Lake Tanganyika Adventure Safaris, Lake Tanganyika Hotel and Ndole Bay Lodge.

I was recently able to stay at Mahale Beach Lodge (formerly Kungwe Beach Lodge) on the Eastern side of Lake Tanganyika. What a beautiful setting! The lake is so big that you have the sensation of being on an island. This was probably one of the most remote locations I've stayed, and thoroughly enjoyed being far away from the bustle of home!

Went to see the chimps at Mahale National Park. What an amazing experience. The Tanzania rangers were excellent and their care and knowledge of the chimps is beyond belief. I would recommend this trip to anyone interested in this kind of adventure. We stayed at Mbalimbali lodge.

The park is accessible by road now adays up to Park headquarters where you can leave your vehicle and take boat to either park bandaz or other two lodges inside the park. From kigoma town is just 5 to 6 hours drive to the Park, so for those who want to visit by road do not hesitate just use

Seeing the wild chimpanzees in this beautiful location was a highlight. The scenery is spectacular, the accommodation is spacious and first-class, the food is delicious, the people are very friendly and hospitable, and the entire experience is highly recommended. Our only disappointment is that we were unable to see the chimpanzees on our second day, as the trackers were unable to locate them. However, the chimps are wild, sol this can sometimes happen.

Although on a lake it felt like an island paradise. The water was gently lapping at the shore, gorgeous sunsets and beautiful mountains. We stayed at Mahale Beach Lodge, formerly Kungwe Beach Lodge and it is spectacular.

While in Bujumbura, Burundi, do not miss the magnificent lake in East Africa that is shared by different countries. There are beautiful views when you are in Burundi, take a swim or sun-bath on the sandy beaches

We stayed at Greystoke Mahale, which is on the banks of this immense lake. Fishing was fun (fish were tiny and thrown back), boat rides were great, lovely spot and so big it seemed like one was beside a sea.
