This abbey is worth a visit if in the area, but I probably wouldn't go desperately out of my way to visit as this region has a lot of stunning architecture. We didn't actually see the brewery unfortunately, but the small grounds and the inside were just lovely. The intricacies of the decor are stunning

A very beautiful Abbey with a brewery attached. Well worth a quick visit. Parking is easy and the Abbey is free to visit. Plenty of coffeee shops locally.

The abbey was lovely to visit. The beer with the same name is also quite delicious. Worth a visit. The gift shop was really good here.

Stopped by while driving back to Munich for a visit as I had heard about the abbey through their beer. The church itself is pretty nice with a large dome. Inside is also beautiful as well. While visiting, recommend a visit to the brewery which is on the backside and sample the beer options, you will not regret it if you like Bavarian beer.

The complex includes the 14th century Benedictine Monastery, richly decorated baroque church, vast courtyard, bookstore and gift store and distillery.
The church should be visited by everybody interested in Baroque art.

A beautiful old abbey, about an hour outside of Munich. The church has a beautiful ceiling and with the dome, lets in plenty of sun, to make it seem very light and airy. A nice gift shop on the premises. We probably spent just over 30 minutes and combined the stop at the Abbey with a visit to Linderhof Palace which was a short drive away.

If you are trip planning, this is about a 15 minute stop max. Don’t make it a focus point if you are in the area. Our tour guide had called it a ‘palace’ so we were on board to do a stop, not realizing it was a church. It is a very pretty Catholic facility from an artistic standpoint, but be aware there is a history of abusing boys at Ettal according to information readily available about child sex abuse in Catholic facilities. This may be triggering for some people, as it was for someone in our group.

Visited with a tour in August 2022. Nice location with an interesting story. After visiting the Church went back across the street to sample the beers brewed at the Abby. Enjoyed both that we tried.
