The setting of the abbey and the basilica itself are definitely impressive. We were less enamored however, with what is very obviously a big money-making operation using tourists to generate income. They have their own hotel and restaurant. They brew their own beer and bottle...More

This is a beautiful Abbey in the little town of Ettal. The doors always seem to be open in this place of peaceful contemplation and invite the visitor to enter and sit quietly and take in the beauty of the surroundings. This was our third...More

The Kloster Ettal is a wonderful place to visit. The Barock church and it’s nice garden is a must see. As well as tasting the home made Beer.

This is a great place to stop for a short visit while in Oberammergau, which by the way is a must visit.

This beautiful complex has much of interest. The beautiful chapel, the brewery, the cheese shop etc. At certain times eg winter Sundays, only the chapel is open. It is still worth a visit. Get a guide book inside the chapel before you start your tour...More

Not much to see in the winter. The basilica is very nice and impressive but no more so than other churches. There was not much else to see as everything else was closed.
