A dip into the past through a multisensory experience, to learn and discover in detail, a dive into the past through a multisensory experience, to learn and discover in detail the historical realities of Herculaneum and Pompeii before the eruption of the Vesuvius 79 AD. This is the mission of the MAV structure that was created in the heart of Herculaneum and provides new ways of using cultural. The visitor will be transported in a virtual context faithfully reconstructed by the use of modern technologies. The journey begins after passing a sort of ancestral door dematerialized bodies in streams and connective intelligence leading to the discovery of names and faces of the ancient Herculaneum, with which it is aware of the history of the community and their way living.

This is just a short walk from the ruins and I would strongly recommend to visit MAV first, especially with young kids, as that helps understanding the ruins. I have some notes on my visit to MAV and ruins with an 8 year old child,...More

We visited this museum following a visit to the archaeology site. The "virtual" museum is poorly done with technology from 20 years ago - even the simplest of mobile phones offer you a better experience. The introductory 3D movie was boring and old-school - showing...More

Dropped in here after Ercolano visit and prior to Villa Poppea (Oplontis). Entrance is about 11 euros including the 3D film but with the Artecard 'Tutti la regione' it was only 5 euros. Really impressive. Your VR watch activates as you pass through the individual...More

It is virtual exhibition with many projections about ancient Ercolano. Small children may could disturbed by the low-lights and few visual effects and even is a scholar/educational place I found few effects too dramatically.

This place gives additional value to the visit with its virtual visit and additional explanation of the origins of the vulcanic phenomenon.

A decidedly strange experience, but well worth €8! Nothing but projections, literally virtual museum, but it works! Informative etc, quite illuminating in many aspects but..... the 3d film of Vesuvius and Herculaneum is the crowning glory. d DO IT !!

I haven’t laughed so much for ages! After visiting Herculaneum we popped in on the way to the train station. Staff were truly appalling, and we had to cough several times to get them to look up from their iPhones. The cheesy Alan Partridge style...More

I went here after my visit to ancient Ercolano and I found it useful in order to understand how the life of the inhabitants of Ercolano was like, before the Vesuvio's eruption. In a separate video facility you can enjoy (at no costs) a 3D...More

Interesting introductory film of the eruption, then you descend into various virtual images of life in 79 AD, including a virtual journey through the tunnel dug into the theater and a great rendition of the theater itself in it's full glory before the eruption. A...More
