This house is another building which I would consider for visiting if you’re interested in a highlights tour of Herculaneum. The building is thought to have been owned by a wealthy individual. That’s not surprising considering the building is richly decorated with frescoes and is set over two storeys. The upper level has a distinctive hellenistic style terrace of corinthian columns, which is surprising because of the very obviously Roman styling all over Herculaneum. While not a must see in the park, it’s worth seeing if you can make time for it.

Maybe not one of Herculaneum's high spots, the Samnite house is still interesting in that it is one of the oldest buildings in Herculaneum dating back to the 2nd century BC and still preserved to two storeys with original timbers and a lovely upper storey gallery with some frescoes.

The Samnite House was an interesting visit whilst in Herculaneum. With a large room immediately on entering and with a mosaic floor in the back room it is certainly an interesting stop along the way round!

This is one of those rare two-story houses which survived. Unfortunately the second floor is not open to visitors and there is nothing special on the ground floor.

This is not one of the best buildings in the town to see but it is worth seeing as it is double height

The Samnite House is one of the oldest buildings in Herculaneum. It dates back to 2nd century b.c. Unfortunately it was closed at the time of my visit so I was able to take just a peek thru the door but from what I saw it's a very impressive structure. It's one of a few two-story houses at the site.
