This was a lovely day out, which we did with our two year old. HOWEVER a word of warning - we had read you could take a buggy so we did and I would strongly recommend you don't! We ended up carrying the heavy toddler and dragging or carrying the buggy most of the way. Use a carrier instead if... More

THe walk around the lake is varied and just right for beginner walkers. From forested path to stony beach to meadows. Lots of photography opportunities and good pubs at the Buttermere town side.

Buttermere, Cumbria, England. This lake holds very dear memories for me. I was very fortunate to be there on an evening when the waters were very still and I was able to snap this splendid picture. I have never found the waters there to be this still. Hope to be there again whenever that would be... The best time to... More

Nice walk around the lake with stunning scenery. At present there is a part on the footpath that cannot be walked due to nesting sandpipers. We got a nice day so that was a bonus. The walk was approx 4.6 miles & took about 1 & 3/4hrs with photo stops & throwing a stick for the dog to swim for

Low intensity walk around the lake is a delight. Small portion is roadside where there is unfortunately no pavememt. Cafe, farm cafe, and pub in Buttermere itself. 2 carparks one of which is free for national trust members.

We love the walk around Buttermere which is about 5 miles and takes less than 2 hours. Beautiful views across the Lake. Take walking shoes or good solid trainers. Only down side is that when you get to opposite end from the Fish Inn, you have to walk along the road for about 300 yards - so you have to... More

The walk around Buttermere Lake is about 5 miles and took us about 2 hours walking at a reasonable pace. There are plenty of places around the walk where you can stop/ sit and enjoy the wonderful scenery. It really is a very enjoyable walk. The Buttermere walk would suit most people of good mobility as terrain is largely flat... More

Beautiful lake and an easy walk. Car parking as usual is pricey and tricky to find on a busy day. Nice to do this at any time of the day. We did it in the early evening and it was lovely. Would have given this a 5 star rating but the cows came and blocked the bridge and got too... More
