About
KOHIMA WAR CEMETERY lies on the battle ground of Garrison Hill. No trace remains of the bungalow, which was destroyed in the fighting, but white concrete lines mark and preserve permanently the historic tennis court. The cemetery now contains 1,420 Commonwealth burials of the Second World War. At the highest point in the cemetery stands the KOHIMA CREMATION MEMORIAL commemorating 917 Hindu and Sikh soldiers whose remains were cremated in accordance with their faith.

Kohima War Cemetry is a Memorial for the valiant soldiers of the Commonwealth Forces who laid down their lives for protecting the Kohima city from the Japanese invasion during April 1944. It is well maintained by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission. The stone plaque there states that 2300 commonwealth ex-servicemen are commemorated of which around 150 remain un-identified. A solemn and must visit in Kohima.

A solemn place for the fallen brave in battle amidst well manicured lawns and a beautiful garden. On the Headstones some were as young as 18 when they fell in battle. This is close by to the main market area within walking distance.

The Cemetery, maintained by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, is beautiful and is a testimony to one of the most important battles in the history of mankind. I had gone there on a rainy day, but it didn't deter my enthusiasm nor ruin the tour. Definitely worth a visit, as is the wondering Cathedral nearby.

Really nicely preserved war memorial. You can read the soldier names and realize war is never glorious. It’s loss of so many young men. Nice and lace to spend half an hour. It would be good if some guides are there for history buffs.

VEry well made and well-maintained place--appropirate for a sentimental memorial. Located on topp of a hill--the place offers great views of the city., However, almost the entire cemetry is for non-Indians only--with a few exceptions only!
