This ancient mosquee from the 16th century will take some travel to get to from the main city of Rjshahi. It is approximately 30 miles from Rajshahi. This makes it 40 to 70 minutes by car depending on the roads. Mentioned in other reviews this is the mosque on the 50 Taka note.
When remember that this is an active mosque and please be respectful for the possibility of people praying. There is also a small series of gravesites on the back property area to see, but walking on them is considred disrespectful. I say this because on my visit there were Asian individuals taking pictues while sitting on the graves. This caused a small stir from worshipers.
As you walk around the mosque, you are able to toch and feel the elaborate clay wall carvings. Seeing the overall architecture from the period is astounding. The grounds around the mosque are open with trees and a small area of vendors. This is a beautiful and historic site that should not be missed if you are in the area.

The mosque is noteworthy for its exquisite terracotta ornamentation. It is interesting to note that the additional prayer chamber created by means of a raised platform in the north-west corner within the building appears to have been an exclusive gallery for the governor who ruled the area as a nominee of the reigning sultan. This sort of special prayer chamber, noticed in some other Bengal mosques, appears to have been meant as a substitute of maqsura (Maqsurah (Arabic مقصورة) (literally "closed-off space"), an enclosure, a box or wooden screen near the mihrab or the center of theqibla wall)- a feature introduced in the mosque architecture of early Islam for the safety of the caliphs. This particular feature of the Bagha mosque has given it the status of a Jami mosque.

You can visit the mosque and find the Muslim ancestry history of Bengal. Near to Rajshahi city. I travel to Rajshahi by train from Dhaka. Regular flight is there. But airport is 10 miles from city. so you must arrange car before reaching there.

Lovely terracotta mosque, built in 1523 A.D. Its about 44 km east/south-east of Rajshahi town. Its off the highways and we took a car. the road was good and ran through green paddyfields and mango groves. Such historical buildings can be irreparably by regular everyday usage - and need to be preserved as heritage buildings.

Bagha Mosque is located 40 KM South Est of Rajshahi city.It is connected by all weather metal road . Local bus is available but it is better to have own transport to save time. The passes through a important installation Sarda Police Academy and finishes near Upozilla HQ.The mosque was built in 1523 by the then local ruler Nasiruddin Md Shah.. A boundary wall encircles the mosque .Architectural style is more or less similar to the other ancient mosques of North Bengal. The complex has two entrances one from South (main) and another in the North. All around the mosque there is enough space to move around. It is 75 x 42 feet. It has 10 domes ,five in each row.Four octagonal terracotta turret added its architectural beauty .Walls are decorated with art works..
Adjacent to mosque there is a Dargah of Shah Doula who believed to come from Iran with four associates.. Thousands of people irrespective of religion visits this majar (shrine). Though it is muslim Dardgah I saw few hindu families visiting with manat.(A promise of sacrificing anything for removing sorrows or grief.)Parnell to mosque and Majar there is a huge pond( artificial water reservoir) approx 800x 300 feet . Thousands of people preparing food for manat . If one wants to see the architectural part they should visit other then Friday . If one wants to feel people then they should visit on Friday.

A nice mosque worth the stop. Although some might skip this, I wouldn't though if you like architecture and that religious feel. Anything old gets my vote

Recommend to visit on Friday (midd day). Many pilgrims from the neighbourhood area comes here on every Friday for prayers and Sacrifice animals, cooking and folk fair are very interesting. Walking around the mosque and the village by the lake is safe and nicer. Just ask someone for a plate and stand on the que for your meal, it is welcome and ment to share.

One of the oldest historical masjid in the country. This photo was used in 50 taka note in Bangladesh. It's design is still alive and tells the quality of work.

It is located near Rajshahi city, 90 mins car drive appx. This is a historical mosque with many notations. There is a big pond outside of the mosque, which enhances its beauty.

On the way Back to Dhaka, we did not want to miss the chance to visit this historic place. This Mashjid was made in 1523 and it is at Bagha, 25 miles southeast of Rajshahi. This was established by Sultan Nasiruddin Nasrat Shah after he came from Baghdad with his 5/6 followers to promote Islam in this continent. All of their graveyard is just beside the mashjid. The mud work is wonderful. It was real cool inside when outside temperature was around 40 celsious, even though no air conditioner was nside. Have a visit if you are a history lover. By the way Road condition was real good, you can easily move with private car.

New Market to this Complex- what is the easiest route?
Written 25 July 2015
Actually there is local market besides Bagha Mosque. But if you are asking about Rajshahi New Market, you have to avail local bus services or rented car or your own transport. :-D
