An exceptional place to visit. One of the very few swamp forest in Bangladesh. It's a must place to visit for tourists. The best time for visit is rainy season from June to September. We went there at late January but still it's been amazing experience for all of us.

The best time to visit Ratargul Swamp Forest is durning monsoon. Its inexplicable beauty during monsoon is gonna give you a unique experience. A boat ride in Ratargul Swamp Forest must be a must in your 'to-do-list' if you are planning to visit Sylhet.

My family with my sisters kids we visited the Ratargul Swamp Forest or Known as 'Amazon of Bangladesh'. It's a great journey by boat inside the forest as you will discover 73 species of plants. 80 percent of the forest area is covered with umbrella of the trees. But in the end, i will definitely road recommend this boat tour inside the breathtaking forest.

Ratargul Swamp Forest is the only freshwater swamp forest located in Sylhe and one of the few freshwater swamp forest in the world. The evergreen forest is situated by the river Goain and linked with the cannel Chengir Khal. Most of the trees grow here are Pongamia pinnata (Koroch tree).
The forest goes under 20-30 feet water at rainy season and a boat trip is breath taking. A boat ride through the Ratargul swamp forest would feel like one in the Amazon. The forest is a good source of fish while its habitants include snakes, monkeys, lizards, insects and birds. Some parts of the forest get so narrow that only small boats can pass.
How to go:
Though it is situated in Goainghat Upozila, but it is easier to go to this place through the airport Road. It is almost 10 kilometers from the Sylhet city.

Ratargul Swamp Forest is called as Amazon of Bangladesh. It is an evergreen and mystic forest as well as one of the best fresh water swamp forests in this world. It is located at the Goain Ghat area of Sylhet Division in Bangladesh. The beauty of this forest is bloomed mainly in the rainy season. The traveling taste of Ratargul is like to visit the Sundarban. It a fresh and clean water forest in the bank of Goain River and linked with the cannel Chengir Khal. Hire a CNG auto-rickshaw from Ambarkhana point of Sylhet city for Goainghat Bazar. It will cost BDT 300-500 and take 2-3 hours. Then hire a motor boat from the Engine Nouka Ghat near the bazar. It will cost BDT 800-1400 and take 1-2 hours to reach Ratargul.

Start early morning to see the real beauty. Need to take car to reach the ghat and then take a boat to see around. The best timing would be early morning like 6/7 am. Beautiful experience with little cost! Don't miss it

We stayed in Sylhet and found this place in a little booklet of places to see - and we were amazed upon visiting it. A busy trip visiting family in Sylhet and all the general hustle and bustle meant we needed some time for us, and this certainly hit the spot.
Quiet, tranquil and beautiful as far as you could see, going through this swamp forest was certainly our highlight of our trip. Very few foreigners seem to make it here, the majority of tourists were from Dhaka, so the locals were amazed seeing my wife and children. Smiles erupted across every boat we came across. The tower in the middle of the swamp forest offers beautiful views as far as the eye can see, and we were lucky enough to see some wildlife in the forest too.
My recommendation is to hire a private boat and ease away an hour or two on the water enjoying the calmness that is the opposite at times to a very busy Bangladesh!

1. Ratargul Swamp Forest is an excellent place for those who loves natural beauty. The forest is naturally made. I talked with few villagers and boat man about it, they said that the forest exists since long. But it was unexplored. Possibly few adds are made in this forest capitulating its silence, thereafter people came to know about it.
2. Ratargul Swamp Forest is unique for its silence. As you go through the forest by country made boat, you will find no sound around. If you like climbing trees, you may try. But you should be careful about red ants. People said about snakes, but I did not experience any.
3. Good time to visit here is rainy season, because water remains at good level, during winter the level goes down, difficult for the boat man to row the boat. The road to Ratargul is comparatively good, but last 700/800 meter remains muddy during monsoon. You have to take a walk this distance. Only country boats are available here, the villagers ensure that no engine boat is permitted in order to maintain the sanctity of the forest and also to ensure silence inside the forest.
4. Camera is a must item to carry, no charging facility inside the forest, so mobile and camera should be adequately charged. Food is not available around, so you should carry food on board. Slipper of rubber made or Burmese sandal will be better. The non swimmer may carry life jacket. but dont worry, the water level is not more than 4/5 feet. Boats are small, so 6/7 persons should be maximum for one boat. Price of boat depends on how many person and how long you remain. You need to negotiate with boatman. The range is 500-1000 tk per boat.
5. It is a short visit. It may take 1 hour 30 minutes journey to reach by jeep/car/ CNG from Sylhet town. Walking to boat ghat 15 minutes. 2/3 hours sight seeing and fall back the same way. Carry a towel and water bottle, it will be of great help. Kids are around to help you. They are very sober, you may take their help in regards to carry your bag, sandal or any other load. They will not ask any amount for this it is on to your good judgement.
6. An advice. Please do not throw your plastic, poli-packet or left over food to the water of the forest.
7. I wish you will visit Ratargul Swamp Forest soon. All the best

The best time to visit Ratargul Swamp Forest is early in the morning or early in the evening in the rainy season but in winter it is possible to roam about the forest on foot.

This a natural & beautiful attractions with hill, mountains water falls. This Swamp forest look like Sunadrban mangrove. You can visit the area by hiring a rental boat hourly basis or pay at a time. staffs are only boatman, you can buy from local shops packet food to eat, no ticket for infant, no good restaurants for food. Own managed transport is better than public transport.

Directly no local transport available. You can take bus or CNG from Sylhet city (Ambarkhana) to Gowainghat. And then from Gowainghat you have to hire any boat to reach Ratargul Swamp Forest.
Thanks!

How can I visit both place bismakandi and ratargul in one day?
Written 20 August 2016
Great!
It is easy to visit Ratargul and Bichanakandi within a one day tour. First, go to Sylhet city and reserved a CNG for both places and you can back to the city by evening after enjoying the wonderful Swamp Forest and the mindblowing Bichnakandi.
"tripnavigation.blogspot" is my blog, you can check the site for more information.
Thanks

Time required is more than two hours. you should hire the micro for the whole day, if you leave micro after reaching there, it will be difficult to get another one.
The micro can go up to hadarpar, there after you need to hire a engine boat. you may also avail the public engine boat to reduce costing. engine boat may take 1000-1500 tk for round trip.
