A pious and pure place to pray and cleanse the mind. Extremely neat and clean and well maintained. Houses several devotees free of charge at the residential complex. A truly must visit.

GURUDWARA SHRI DATA BANDI CHOD SAHIB, is situated in the Gwalior in the hill top Fort Gwalior. Sikh Guru Hargoibind Singh Ji was imprisoned in the Gwalior Fort along with 52 Rajputs. He prayed there for several years. On the Diwali festival he was released but he brought with him all the Rajputs. They held on to his riobe and came out.
From that day onwards GURU SAHIB was also known as Data Bandi Chod Sahib. On Diwali there is a major festival held here and as such many Sikh devotees and tourists come here thorough out the year. Best time is to go from September to March...

Gurudwara Data Bandi Chhod is a place that oozes history. Reminiscent of the time when Guru Hargobind secured the release of 52 other kings from the prison of Jahangir inside the Gwalior Fort the place oozes history. A very serene place in the vicinity of Gwalior Fort.
The architecture of the Gurudwara in itself is very good. Dont miss the Langar once you are there.

This gurudwara is built in the memory of 6th guru of Sikhism, who was kept as a prisoner by the Mughal king -- Jahangir. The jail where guru ji was kept as a prisoner, is in very bad shape. However the gurudwara is in good condtion where the visitors can enjoy free food--- langar, which is the tradition of Sikhs. It is at a walking distance from the Gwalior Fort.

This gurdwara is in Gwalior Fort and commemorates Guru Hargobind, who was kept a prisoner at this fort by the Mughal emperor, Jahangir. It is a small and unobtrusive structure on your right as you head towards Man Mandir. If you don't know it's there, you may miss it altogether.

We didn’t know this temple before we went to Gwalior fort( we only knew we want to see the palace) but as we be driven along ... we could see this magnificent beautiful white temple towering from a distance, it made this more striking because all the monument, fort and temple in the comping made of natural brown and sand stone but this temple was built in white marble. We rent an electric taxi car when we arrived on the fort (and realised it was impossible to walk everywhere) and this young man dropped us there, initially the guard was not allowed us to go in but our driver talked to the guard and he waived us in, there was no tourist or tourist car when we were there, only prayers, I do not know if they allow tourist in so you better check before you go there. But once we were in the compound of the temple, like most Sikh temple, we felt accommodated and welcomed. The building is in white marble and the outside paving was interesting with all the mix of geometry patterns. Inside is calm and peaceful with a glass box exhibit Sikh religion objects

Built inside the Gwalior Fort, the Gurudwara was constructed in 1970. Made up of marble and colourful stained glass exteriors, the Gurudwara is one of the significant Sikh pilgrimage sites.
But the Sewak inside the gurudwara are very rude. N they might abuse you as well in Punjabi N the reason is very simple " even though there is a signboard that tourist can click picture they won't let you click if you are an Indian.. Isn't it embarrassing that in your own country man consider you lower to people from other countries "
Very unfortunate to have those kind of Sewak who are maligning the image of very helpful Sikh community.

How to visit this place and other nearby places inside the fort like Gopachal parvat, Gurudwara, Teli temple etc. Can we take cab to all these places?
Written 18 September 2018
Good afternoon Mr. Shonil from India. To visit the Gurudwara etc. you can certainly take a cab, but a good number of places inside the Fort can be reached on foot as well. You can find details when you reach Gwalior or you can also check with the various websites. Besides, Gwalior has a very good Touris Info Office! Happy journey

Legend has it, that Empress Noor Jahan, wife of Jahangir, requested him to release Guru Hargobind Singh from imprisonment at the Man Mandir, which was converted into a prison by the Mughals. Jahangir agreed and set the Guru free. However, The Guru refused to leave citing that there are other prisoners also who face the torture of imprisonment. Jahangir said that only those prisoners will be set free who can hold the Guru's "daman" while he leaves. 52 kings held on to the Guru's "daman" and were set free thus. Hence the name of the Gurudwara - Gurudwara Bandi Chhod.
If you attend the Sound and Light Show at the fort in the evening, this will be narrated.
