Road to get there is not great but is worth it to go if you have a rent car as views from there are good and the church in cave is very unique ;-)

Amazing little church to pilgrimage too expect a rough ride in a 4x4 or quad bike.

Be aware this is within the military firring range and to ensure you check with officials before you visit

This church is located out in the middle of nowhere, with a few hiking trails going past it. It is very charming and different, literally a small church built into a cave, with a natural skylight illuminating the inside. Well worth the visit for anyone out hiking in the area!

This was a heck of a walk uphill, but it was interesting to see this little church carved into the rock. Yes it’s worth going to see this strange little church.

Off the beaten track you must go to find this quirky little church built into a cave in the mountain. Dedicated to the 40 martyrs of Sebaste this church brings cool relief on a summers day and is a really charming little treasure to find. The track is rough so if you are precious about your tyres, perhaps its not for you, but if you are up for adventure definitely go for it- you will be glad you did :D

We didn’t actually get to the church as the track was quite rough and we didn’t want to risk getting a puncture miles from anywhere. Great shame as we could see it in the distance and it looked interesting.

I was happy that at my car rent agency got the tip for this little hidden gem. After discovering the Capo Greco and swimming just before the sun set I came here, using navigation. The sun set light made it even more pretty. I enjoyed the solitude and silence while I meditated I Can be hard to find as the more you approach the “road” it gets more dusty and narrow. There is also natural trail leading there. The cave church is built in Fanos, the tallest hill of the area. The stone roof of the church operates as compass for the pilgrims towards the chapel.

Though the route is a bit unclear - Komoot has a route that goes through a recent development, for instance - I hiked there twice now. It's dry, dusty and rough, but it's a nice chance from the beach scenery. The church itself was richly adorned in Oct 2021, much barer in May 2022 - not sure why.
