Important, sobering place. Very well organized museum that is immensely educational and terrible at the same time. Well worth the trip

This is a Nazi concentration camp that held 35,000 captives from 1941-1945. Mass grave and watch tower with all the fences intact. It’s in a beautiful area of the country side but very sad example of what happened in the 40s during World War II

I always think it is important to visit this kind of places just to get a better understanding of history. At this moment, you will not see much as nearly all the barracks were destroyed after the war. Now, you will see a small visitor center where you can read about the camp and where you can also watch some movies about people actually were prisoners at the camp. This is interesting.
At this moment they do some construction works as they want to make the visitor center bigger. Should be finished within the next year. In the visitor center there are some voluntary guides who tell you more about the camp or to whom you can ask some questions. They are very friendly.
Around the camp you can also walk around and see the 'Stenen Man' (stone man). This is a monument where they found a mass grave. This is impressive and will make you aware that we definitely need to learn from history.

As soon as you enter the gate with the sign "Kamp Amersfoort" you will feel the atmosphere already. The visitor center-museum was closed at 04.00 pm in the winter. We could walk in the area to the memorial stone and the monument by the end of the fusillade place. Where the monument "De Stenen Man" is now standing, it was used to be the mass grave and along the fusillade place, 49 bodies were burried. There is no word to say really got a goose bump

First of all, do not expect a concentration camp which was preserved well as the ones in Poland or Germany. The half of the camp, where the barracks of the prisoners have been located were sold to the police academy!!!! So these buildings were turned into offices of police force. Also the rest of the memorials spread over a territory so it is not very structured. The whole place can be seen in 45 minutes. With all respect, it is much more a walk in the forest than a memorial as it fails to give the feeling of a concentration camp. I was also a bit dissappointed that how Dutch authorities let this place to be sold. Could be way much better.

There is an English information sheet which explains well all the different areas of the camp. A lot of it was overgrown but you could still get a feel for the camp. I enjoyed seeing the trenches that had been dug out by the Dutch before they were invaded by Germany. Well worth a visit.

This is an important site to visit, a sad history that should not be forgotten. It is a somber visit, difficult to understand how people could be so cruel to other people.
Restored well, info cards in English available.

Hard to rate a concentration camp visit on scale of terrible to Excellent, doesn't seem to have any relevance.
It deserves great publicity and promotion that it currently gets given it's tragic history. .
That said we found it interesting, and a terrible minder of mans inhumanity to man and what some people are capable of.
What happened here should not be swept away or hidden from view but rather held up as a memorial to those that were sent here and a warning for the future.

Unfortunately as we don't speak Dutch, we didn't understand the majority here. There were a few signs in English in one part and a small leaflet which gave an overview of the camp but didn't help with what we were looking at. The majority of the camp has now unfortunately gone but there is still a watchtower, some murals on a wall and the old bell as well as a lovely but moving walk across the road to the execution point where there is a statue in memorial now. There seemed to be quite a few moving and informative videos but again these were only in Dutch, English subtitles would have been lovely.
This exhibit is all free entry and there is tea/coffee with a request for a donation. There are various exhibits we assume were from the site too.

The entire museum part of the camp was in Dutch. It looked like they had a good amount of information, but nothing we could understand. Being able to read is vital as much of the camp no longer exists. Could have been quite interesting if more information was provided. Also parking was very limited - we ended up parking in field - still don't know if that was really allowed.
