What a curiously adorable village set in the magnificent countryside. Drive through the old wall gates, park by the covered central market square and walk up hill and across to the Chateau, down ancient streets of houses leaning sideways and forwards. The ruins are perfectly placed for walkers to enjoy views, hills and dales. Lovely little eateries, shops and the atmosphere is enchanting. Set in cobble streets the river crosses everywhere with gorgeous little bridges and wiers and adorable French couples eating lunch on tiny balconies. It is a dream village that gave 4 of us a wonderful day out.

En route back to Lyon from a road trip around Burgundy and Alsace, I didn't expect to find an old town with half-timbered houses and a medieval covered market which is still in use. Full of flower festooned foot bridges over the riverlet running through the center of the city.

A market with live fowl, meats, great cheeses, vegetables and flowers. Packed with people inspecting and buying all under a superb medieval roof - the Saturday market is absolutely great and appreciated by locals and visitors. Plenty of bars too with tables outside inviting for a rest and an apero.

At about 1.5 hrs drive from our home in Geneva lies Chatillon-sur-Chalaronne, certainly not the most easy-to-pronounce place in France for non-French-mothertoungues. The city is a well preserved medieval showcase of beautiful buildings, hidden corners, and quaint restaurant, and a river runs through it. In addition to this on Saturdays it has a wonderful market with great food, but also some farm animals (chickens, rabbits etc) on sale. There is a small miniature train museum, and a castle to climb up to and explore. It is one of those under-rated places in France one hopes will never be discovered by "big tourism".

Incredible traditional french market in a historical building. Stunning atmosphere. Gourmet cheeses, breads, meats etc. Live animal market is amazing. Children will love petting baby ducks, geese, rabbits, chick's. Lovely little fairy tale village. Make sure to see the flower covered bridges.

This quaint little village has some amazingly old - like 13th century old - buildings set around canals and open spaces. We were there on market day, and the rustic market stalls and pavilion are clearly meiaeval. We even sampled the frogs legs. Are you that bold?

As vegetarians, we expected to be horrified by the live animals for sale on the Saturday morning before Easter. We were not! The roosters, hens, ducks, geese, and rabbits for sale were healthy, happy, lovely animals. Shoppers took them home in roomy cardboard boxes with breathing holes. If only American livestock were treated this well! The fruits and vegetables were gorgeous as well. A wonderful experience.

Interesting restoration but lacks something that would make it authentic. Good for a short stop but don't think it is an all day affair.

Lots of interesting old buildings to wander past without major problems from crowds and traffic. Parking is easy except on market days.

Not a great deal to see. Title says it all. We only stopped for something to eat. After lunch we had a quick walk into the centre and up to the walls.

Bonjour, la cité n'est pas totalement accessible, quelques passages sont étroits ou en pavés, il peut donc s'avérer difficile de circuler. Des toilettes accessibles sont prévues à la mairie.
