If you have some time on your way to St. Moritz, Bernina or Davos, it is well worth stoping at Filisur, a beautiful village with typical painted houses dating from year 1500 and lesser. It is located 5 minutes down the train station. You can cross it within 15 minutes. Do not forget the beautiful interior of the church. Though... More

We spent the night in Filisur so we could see the Landwasser Viaduct, supposedly a milestone in Swiss engineering. It's okay. Simply okay. Don't make a special trip to see it, but if you're close by, it's a nice detour. When you get off the train, walk behind the station to the big red sign stating that this is an... More

There are 2 walks to view the Viaduct, one which goes to the viewing platform and the other which follows the river to the base of the viaduct. Both start outside the FILISUR train station and there are several large boards with maps and information. Both walks start on the road going to the right ( not the path going... More

If you like travelling by train then you can have a treat by travelling from Chur to Tirano on the Bernina Express route. The journey time is just over four hours but what a journey if the weather is clear. The railway was completed in 1910 and does not rely on rack and pinion traction, instead the elevation of the... The Rhatische Bahn Railroad (Rhätische Bahn - RhB), 703, model Ge 6/6, with freight train emerged from tunnel onto Landwasser Viaduct (German: Landwasserviadukt). This a single track six-arched curved limestone railway viaduct. It spans the Landwasser River between Schmitten and Filisur, in the Canton (similar to our states) of Graubünden, Switzerland. September 8, 2015 after 30-minute hike from Schmitten, Switzerland... More

Worthy of the UNESCO heritage award. A variety of viewing points, access from Filisur station or car park under the viaduct. Some paths easier, some more demanding, stout footwear recommended for any of them. Well constructed viewpoints in 2 strategic locations, excellent for photography.

Even in the pouring rain, it is worth a walk to one of the viewpoints to watch the train enter or pop out of the tunnel in the rock face. An engineering marvel. Historic and beautiful.

It is great structure which was constructed in 1903 and only in year 2009 ie after 106 years, there was little renovation work done. Nearly 5000 people were participated during construction time in such a hard climatic conditions. Must visit for swiss travellers.
