- nacreRomsey, United Kingdom28 contributionsTurtle spotting and snorkelling in this beautiful beachThis beach is beautiful. Waves are nice some days then calm as the west coast on others. On a calm day it is better than some of the west coast beaches as it’s not swarmed with boats. Slight under current at times but still good for snorkelling on the reef at one end then the other end it was choppy but you can see turtles surfing the waves and floating around. Lovely small establishments set a little back from the beach. I would have rated 5 star but there are too many beach bums that need to stop trying to rip tourists off and stop trying to push drugs on us and get s real job- this annoys the locals who are working hard earning an honest living.Visited December 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 31 December 2023

Can rent a chair and umbrella. Can also get a surf board and lessons, along with other water sports.Lots of snack bars, and restaurants.Visited January 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 9 February 2024
- Jo BAberdare, United Kingdom18 contributionsAmazingAbsolutely amazing, white sandals and turquoise blue sea. It is so Pretty and takes your breath away. Be careful of the waves though as although fun, they can be dangerous. There were lots of turtles spotted and the sunset is a bonus.Visited March 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 23 March 2024

Lovey beach, near quite a few restaurants/ cafes. The sea stays shallow for quite a while.
Be aware of the individuals who approach you when you park up. They do not necessarily work for the beach bar. We had a man who took us to the sun beds (which we wanted to pay for). But then he explained he did not work for the bar but we should give him money and he will act as a butler for us. Any time we moved he asked where we were going and reminded us that we should tip him even though he didn’t provide us with anything/do anything for us. Very odd situation. He also claimed he was kindly giving us free wifi but it was actually the wifi of a local hotel and it didn’t work. The people who did work for the beach bar were friendly I would recommend heading straight into the bar when you park up if you want to rent sun beds.

In 3 nights there we had a "red flag" every day, but felt safe playing in the waves (not going over our heads). Fun to watch the surfers, especially at sunset. Note beach is cut off on both ends so not ideal for those who like long beach walks. Lovely soft white sand in and out of the water.

Fantastic area with a mix of tourists and locals. Wide variety of eateries and bars. Generally all with good prices, and the facilities in the square expand as necessary (additional tables, chairs, and gazebos) Plenty of shade.

Visited during a very quiet time but a peaceful beach to relax on. Loungers and umbrellas readily available at a charge from local vendors. Snack/meal bar close by. Clear waters was able to snorkel , white sand.

This is a very pretty and exotic beach with lots of great views from all angels. The sand is soft and white with a very large expanse from the edge of the resort to the shoreline there is plenty of room. The water has various colors and they are remarkably beautiful and brilliant. We were there in November and the temperature was nice and warm.

I recently visited Dover Beach and what an amazing time. I have visited Barbados several times and always make sure the Dover is on my itinerary. Make sure to see Charles for umbrella and chair rentals he is truly a jem. At the end of the day I walked from the beach to Heathers bar and enjoyed a cold beverage and her wonderful company.

Remove the roosters and hens from this area and clean up the massive amount of garbage. My family, friends and I have been visiting Barbados for 20 years. This area used to be fun and beautiful. It’s completely overrun with chickens and roosters everywhere, so disappointing that this area is so unbecoming. Dover beach and Dover Gardens area have over 300 roosters hens chickens and chicks. Crowing all night long keeping tourists and residence awake as well. They belong on the farm, for hygienic reasons. Small children are playing in the sand and bird fecal matter is everywhere. I have emailed the Dept of tourism and Agriculture with no reply. Local businesses owners and residences are tired of this as well. Someone please do something.

Easy to rent an umbrella and 2 loungers with a small table for 30 BBD. Waves were strong at times, and we had a great time jumping in them or letting them push us around. There seemed to be a surf school at the end of the beach, which looked like a nice place to learn (enough wave action to allow you to get going, without being overwhelmingly dangerous). There was a constant breeze which prevented us from overheating as we relaxed on the beach. The outdoor rinse station was working, and there were a few casual restaurants to grab a bite to eat.

The sandy white beach and clear blue waters are superb. There are palm trees where you can relax and shade if you want to on each of the further ends of the beach. There is a life guard, cafes and souvenir shops and umbrella/recliners for hire if you are not staying at a nearby hotel. You can also eat at some of the restaurants in some hotels nearby or walk just minutes to the many choices in The Gap.

The pictures looked lovely. Beaches are not supposed to be private in Barbados. Advertising tourists to go is false. This is a private beach. First clue is there is no change/restrooms. So what are locals and tourists to do? There are approximately five hotels on this beach. If you get too close to the hotel's previous beach chairs, security will let you know and shoot you away. For hotel guest only.

How much to hire two loungers and an umbrella per day in 2024 please?
Written 29 February 2024
I was told about $15 to 20Usd per day but with some you can negotiate if going to rent for a week or two. I think it could vary by which season...in peak season the demand is higher.

Looking to return to the Gap in November, are the restaurants open?

How much are 2 chairs & umbrella rental? Can you move them around? Doesnt look too crowded? Going in March 2020
Written 5 December 2019
We also never inquired about chair rentals although the beach is very open and not crowded at all- that is one of the best things about booking a vacation in Barbados- just you and a few other guests on a white sand beach- so lovely!

Booked next year at southern palms hotel what is Dover beach like in July is it calm the water have heard since booking that beach sometimes closed and water rough a lot of the time ..? But beach looks beautiful ?
Written 23 June 2019
Went in March - not sure about July. Some strong waves for boogie boarding. My kids had a little trouble getting knocked off the boards often but it was their second time doing it. If that helps.
Written 8 July 2019
you face south, so some rooms on the west end of the hotel may get some until late afternoon, but you don't get to see sunsets on the water from the room, need to go on the beach or better down the boardwalk - it was beautiful there.
