Referred to as "Symphony of Stones", most people will first visit the Temple of Garni, then descend into the gorge of the Goght River. Down the bottom there is a well maintained and easy path, from where you can admire the hexagonal basalt columns carved out in the cliff walls.
If you ignore the omnipresent signs of "danger : falling rocks", you can walk a long way. It is an interesting freak of nature, well worth a good hour.

Fot those who love geology and nature this is a "must do" site. Really spectacular basalt formations cut through by a small river.
Be aware, there is a very steep descent on foot to get there from the main road. So there is a very steep ascent back to the road. And as it was hot that day, it was a challenge.
Luckily there are several clever merchants at the bottom selling cold beverages at low prices. So if you are down there, get your fluids up to where they need to be because you will sweat getting out of the gorge again.
Also take you time. We were on a bus tour and were not given enough time to really enjoy the whole gorge.

An amazing sight as you wander down the path - the sides are hexagonal balsalt columns. There's an entrance fee but well worth it. You can walk a very long way - there's a land train part way back if you're tired.

These certainly look like a prehistoric organ.
There are hundreds of basalt pillars that line the gorge that make a stunning sight.

Visiting "Garni Temple", you cannot miss "Garni Gorge" and its awesome "Basaltic Organ" - the hidden pipes of Armenia! Due to volcanic activities, basalt rock formations seem like columns sculpted by extraordinary craftsmen! Just breathtaking! You can walk down all the way from "Garni Temple" on the cliff's edge above, or hire one of the many existing 4WD vehicles with local drivers. Right there, you will immediately understand why "Basaltic Organ" is also known as "Symphony of Stones"! Enjoy!

Great natural rock formation, as organ pipes. Nice for a walk, from old bridge by the river, to the view of Garni temple on the hill, and back. Formations should be formed by vulcanic lava pushing/reforming rocks.

If you are in Garni and have the appropriate means of transportation, it could be worthwhile to drive down the recently built road down to the gorge and the organ. There are cool, huge formations of basalt and the size is quite impressive.

This was as unusual and exciting as it was described to us on our way. We had just visited the Garni Temple and done the walk around the gorge and we came face to face with this fantastic scene.

Thought this natural phenomenon is amazing where due to volcanic activities basalt columns were formed looking like a symphony of organs! Taking a stroll enjoying these rock formations was really nice.
