Compact history, several ages in one area
Really enjoyed wandering the remains of the Castle from the time of the early Crusades. Beautiful location with great views out of the embrasures. Stuffed full of statue bits and carvings. Free in. Can stay as long as you want and the staff will answer your questions. Then we went across the Platanou past Hippocrates tree to the Greco Roman Agora.

The views were brilliant. It was really windy the day we went. Its was our third visit to the town first time we went on a tues in 2015 and it was closed second time was in 2018 it was closed because of the earthquake so was not safe. So finally go to visit this time,

    Kos Town castle ruin
Worth a visit, especially as when we went in September it was free entry. The castle is pretty impressive on the outside and the entrance route crosses over the main road into the single tunnel entrance. Once inside the grounds are covered in pieces of marble and carvings which give a piecemeal impression of the castle in its heyday. You can walk up to the ramparts to see the harbour or sea view but often the pathways or steps are steep and uneven - it would be a challenge for physically disabled visitors.

Lovely place to visit to pass some time
Visited yesterday with the kids In tow and really enjoyed looking around. Amazing looking structure. No safety barriers but that’s fine as long as you’re mindful of this. The museum was closed when we went but that could because it was the end of the season.. and we didn’t pay an entrance fee. Even my partner said she really enjoyed seeing it and usually I’m the one dragging her around historical buildings..

Nice to see archaeology left as it should be. A bit dangerous for the elderly or young as the step etc have no hand rails.

I loved the castle. Especially given it is free! Wow! I like the fact that they haven’t added unnecessary railings/chains etc and tourists are expected to simply use their common sense. It makes the ruin more authentic. I would have liked more information. I would have even purchased a leaflet. There was one sign that was quite helpful but I needed more. If you’re interested in history, read up before you go so you know what you’re looking at.

Enjoyed walking round these ruins for free! It surprising that it's not more protected people just wander around some amazing ancient artefacts . If this was in Italy most of these things would be in a museum . I just hope it doesn't get damaged

We were out exploring and happened across this castle by accident, believe it or not. We are very glad we did as we had an interesting and enjoyable hour or so there.

To say it is so old, it is still in reasonable condition and you can make out lots of the buildings and fortifications. Around the place there are signs telling you the history which is fascinating and it is beautifully said right up against the sea.

Most impressive is that it is free to explore at your leisure which wouldn’t be the case in most other historic cities.

It is best to wear sturdy shoes as you do do quite a lot of climbing and some of the ground is quite treacherous, but it is definitely worth a visit.
