Upon entering the museum, there is a sign with an explanation in both Russian and English. I felt this was promising. However, the signage throughout the museum is inconsistent. There isn't enough explanations in English to make it worthwhile if you don't read Russian. However,...More

A reccomanded place in which touch and feel the difficulties and the horrible situation generated by the repression. Staff doesn't speak in English but it is not a problem.

We had some free time before our afternoon meetings, but the weather had turned overnight - dropping to a biting -22c - although the locals tell me winter has only just started. Bearing this in mind, we had an hour or so to visit somewhere...More

We really enjoyed learning about NKVD history at this museum, and had an exceptionally nice and informative English tour guide, Kurien (Kyle), show us around. The tour was 600 Rb. Well worth the money and time!

Recommended to those who haven't visited a centre on this theme. Not sure it's a must see, but it was good to take a break from Tomsk's wooden architecture spotting. Another sad reminder of political madness.

Worst a visit to learn about what happened in this region of Siberia. Not too much English but still interesting.

Worth a look. Very interesting, but tragic history. Photos, cells, documents showing organised terror.

Paid the extra 400 Rubles for the English tour. Worth every cent. Very interesting history explained in as much detail as you want.

The NKVD Memorial Museum shows an ugly part of Siberian history of political repression after the Great Russian Revolution. It tells many sad stories of people who fell victim to the regime. Both artifacts and texts are very interesting. Why then the low rating? It's...More
