Well we only saw two elephant families, so all together about 10 elephants. Then there was small birds and buffalo's. I was keen on seeing herds of elephants, but our guide said that this is not the time.

Minnerya and Kadulla National Park is vast and beautiful. So many varieties of birds. Excellent place to see large herds of wild elephants and water buffaloes gathering and feeding openly and enjoying themselves free and at peace with nature. Astounding experience just to enjoy these...More

If you want to see elephants this is the place to visit. However the gatherings are seasonal (May to September as I can remember). The hotels nearby will arrange visits for you. A must visit !

The scenery itself is stunning, vast open plains with a beautiful lake. If you don't mind the sun (3-4 hours drive in open fields) go open-top. Elephants are everywhere in herds. There are the occasional crocodiles and monkeys, if you are lucky leopard too.

We enjoyed a 4 hour safari in an open jeep. Bumpy road- but great fun. The jolts were more than compensated for by the sheer magic of seeing 6-8 herds of wild elephants (about 160+). They ranged in size from babies to 40-50 year old...More
