I highly recommend taking a stroll through Rua da Felicidade. It is one street behind Av. de Almeida Rebeiro, across the road from Senado Square, and you will find lots of shops and F&B including Dragon Portuguese Cuisine and Naughty Nuri's from Bali!

Macau is a small city rich in history, culture and artefact. This narrow alley showcases the old Chinese community in the former Portuguese colony. The colorful houses dotted along Rua da Felicidade are nicely restored to their original face. It is a popular tourist attraction now with plenty of souvenir shops along the way.

It nice street to amble down, watch out for cars and scooters, seems to be a popular route from one place to another and was busy the several times we walked through.

This is the old part of town that I really enjoyed just walking around and imagining what it must have been like before the big casinos arrived. Lots of charm and great photo opportunities. If you like that kind of thing, worth exploring.

Gosh, this is one lane where all your old-charm nostalgic photos can be taken!
Come before the shops open (10am), and get the deserted lane feel... so amazing for photography.
The shops make a great backdrop!
I think it is worth a visit... after your photo-frenzy, and the shops for business, then it is time to spend some $$ haha.

Rua da Felicidade (Happiness Street) is well-known for its history of being a place for vices in Macau. It is informally known as the Red Street, given its former purpose of being a red light district in the city.

Today, things are much different and this is a major tourist attraction. The shop fronts are painted deep red in colour. However they are now filled with bakeries, eateries and other shops geared for tourism.

Since the rise of tourism in Macau, this has become a very busy street with large crowds during most days of the week, eager to catch nice photos of the Rua da Felicidade and enjoy its shops and eateries.

This week, due to the recent Coronavirus Outbreak, you can see the street with no tourists and at times no resident pedestrians even during midday visits. This makes for great picture taking but is a sad reminder of the effect of the virus on tourism and the economic lifeline of the city which so greatly depends on visitors. Hopefully, they will return to Macau soon and fill Rua da Felicidade and the other streets of Macau.

The street itself is very nice picturesque with authentic architecture and traditional sweet shops and bakeries.
The reason I am actually posting this review is recommendation to explore the area a bit more. You can find more traditional bakeries, architecture & especially amazing local street art paintings & even wall carving.

You can find street food, local restaurants, old-fashioned grocery stores, souvenir shops, hostels, hotels here just to name a few. Just 5 min walk from Senado Square. Restaurants opens until late night. Shop of cheap shark fin soup is here near the bridge. No way you will miss it because of a long queue the whole day. Terrific location for photos with red and green doors. Photo Tip: go EARLY morning.

...though, annoyingly, not pedestrianised. Quite pretty and obviously has an interesting history but nothing special during the day, with fairly standard restaurants and shops aplenty plus hordes of people getting annoyed as they wander into each others’ photos. Maybe early morning would have been more photogenic but that’s the kind of things stupid Instagrammers do, planning their lives around the perfect pic.

This street was the old red-light district of Macau way back; the red windows and doors were indicators of brothels. Times have changed.
