For Pete’s sake. If you want people to visit you really need to spend some money and make the fire accessible. Dirt road with holes big enough to swallow your car. People will pay to park so fix the road and make some actual parking The lighthouse looks great but getting to it is miserable

The views are gorgeous, but definitely don’t expect an easy going experience. There’s an extremely rough road getting to the lighthouse (go slow and you’ll be fine). Once you park, the walk up to the lighthouse is full of rocks so make sure to wear sneakers. If you’re looking for the Puente De Piedras, go towards the left. Playa sucia is towards the right & it’s FULL of seaweed so don’t recommend. If traveling from San Juan definitely don’t recommend coming here unless it’s for the views, but not worth a 3 hour drive either.

Whilst on a business trip to the island, decided to visit the lighthouse. The recent storms had meant the road to the parking was closed, so the walk was slightly longer. The hike is slightly up hill so suggest trainers. View from the top was superb and the lighthouse although it is a bit run down still looks impressive on the cliff top

Really beautiful place. We went on a rainy day. The road was terrible and we had to walk a long way in the mud. We did get some mosquito bites. The lighthouse was locked up but the views and the little trails were really beautiful. One of the most beautiful places I have ever been. If I knew what I know now I would have gotten there earlier and spent more time on the beach there. It was the best beach we went to on our trip to Puerto Rico. There is an incredible amount of garbage which was not what we expected, especially for a wildlife refuge. Most if the beaches we visited were full of trash. Very sad.

When you arrive at Cabo Rojo, park at the far end of the lot (nearest Playa Sucia). This will put you at the start of the hike to this lighthouse (not open to enter). The seaside cliff views and the views from the lighthouse area are excellent. Minimal shade cover though, so plan accordingly. The walk here from the lot is < 15 minutes. We then went onwards to Puente de Piedra.

On Sunday there was no parking so we left. We went on Monday and it was closed. It was summer, it must be open every day.

Breathtaking 360-degree views of the Caribbean from the limestone cliffs with the lighthouse in the background made this spot the perfect destination for our sunset wedding ceremony. It has an ominously spiritual and peaceful setting. The wind and the waves play the perfect soundtrack.

This is my third review of this particular location leading up to the lighthouse (see Cabo Rojo Wildlife Refuge & Playa Sucia). So, I will keep this simple. The area is simply amazing and unbelievably beautiful. It is serene and peaceful. We drove across PR just to witness the sunset. Couples and Families alike were in the area to do exactly the same thing. There were bicyclist making their way up the paved road. Other's climbing the rocky pathway. Still more coming through the brush lined trails all to witness the beauty of nature. Everyone it appeared was simply at peace with everything around them. I am sure that this stop was one of the most amazing experiences me & my two son's have had as a family. Definitely worth my out of shape aches & pains as a result of the actual climb. On a side note, it pained me to learn a beautiful young life was lost at this site in 2011. This young man and missionary would have been 28 years old...the same as my oldest son. It touched my spirit and stayed with me even today. Life is precious & can be lost in the blink of an eye. So enjoy it and make this stop part of your families memories that will last beyond life and death. Absolutely Amazing!

I dont understand why people are rating this as terrible or very low rating. Tripadvisor, your criteria shouldnt allow folks to criticize, but rather provide tips. For example, this should be labeled as a wonderful experience that is worth the walk. Yes, the facilities arent the best maintained, but parking shouldnt be an issue, unless you stop by the 4th of July or a very busy like weekend (Labor Day). This is a free attraction so Value should be rated 5. Sights are gourgeous, so another 5, it wont be interesting if you dont do your homework before visiting and if you visit the site unprepared (shoes, water, cameras, etc).
It is a lighthouse, so expect a high location, cliffs, rocky and gravely roads, and a 3/4 mile hike. Plan for at least 2 hours. One for the roundtrip hike, one for enyoing the view.
As everyone is entitled to their opinion, here is mines

Los morrillos is the lighthouse in Cabo Rojo. One of the 14 lighthouse around the Island and for my opinion one of the most beautifull. It is also located at playa sucia. The good thing about this lighthouse is that you get to see the Salinas in Cabo Rojo and also if you want you can visit the Puente de Piedra because all of it is in the same area.

Is it a good place to start gaze? If so is it a safe area at night ?

Is the trolley still running between the parking lot and the lighthouse? Travelling with seniors and the hike would be too much for them. Thanks

As far as I can tell, the information centers are closed on Wednesdays. If I'm there on a Wednesday, would I still be able to access the lighthouse, la playuela and the salt flats?
Written 27 September 2016
Yes, you can still visit all the attractions. Don't forget to go prepared. There are no stores or vendors nearby. If you want to enjoy the area, bring water, food, sunscreen, chairs, an umbrella and mosquito repellent. The beach is so beautiful!

Is it possible to jump from the arch into the ocean?
Written 29 July 2016
If you want to commit suicide you can. Its at least a hundred feet up w/ a rocky ocean below. The cliffs are not marked off so you can walk to the very edge but I would not recommend that. People have fallen to their death from those cliffs. There are quite a few markers in the ground w/ names of those who have gotten too close to the edge, the ground is not supported underneath (you can't tell from where you are standing), gave way without notice and they fell to their untimely death. Keep your distance and don't jump!! This is a park that is meant to be enjoyed by all safely.

How early should you get there?
Is it hot and buggy?
Can you sit on the hood of your car?
Written 9 July 2016
We went there in March and it was not buggy. It is very hot and it was the only day that we got sunburned. We parked in the Beach parking lot, walked up to the Lighthouse, walked around on some "trails", took lots of pictures from the overlooks then went down to the beach. It does get full of families and groups who stake out their spot on the beach even on a weekday but we still found an area to enjoy the sun and some snorkeling.

Is the road to playa sucia as bad as people say ? And once there can you hike up to el faro or the lighthouse from playa sucia beach?
Written 18 February 2015
It is a dirt road but not a bad one, has its bumps; hundreds of cars run through it daily. Yes, you can hike from Playa Sucia to the lighthouse and it is a short but very beautiful hike. As Gary G states you can also walk up to El Faro lighthouse and from there hike down to the beach.
