We stay at Omaha Beach every year and this monument is always moving for us as Americans. It's an easy drive from other nearby sites, and there is good parking as well. Worth checking out.

I think there are only a couple National Guard monuments in Europe comemorating world war two, this is an understated and simple monument to citizen soldiers of the US

On the day of our visit to Vierville-sur-Mer it was wet, cold, windy and miserable. Considering the appalling events which had occurred on the beach here, the weather conditions seemed to be appropriate.
The National Guard Monument located here is large and bold, yet simple in its message. The many Americans who were on this tour with us found it to be moving and some spent quite a deal of time next to it, paying their respects.
This is one of several monuments located in this vicinity. Its large size makes it the most noticeable.

Memorial is located on top of a German gun emplacement and if you look through the grill then you’ll see the gun inside. It was here that the Division broke through the defences on D Day and interestingly the three flags flying above the monument are donated in perpetuity by the largest US flag manufacturers Annin Flagmakers and replaced on a regular basis.

We saw this monument while we were visiting Omaha Beach. I felt very proud to be an American here and had a few moments to think of the National Guard Units who were so vital to the success of the landing. I felt in awe to be here and to pay my respects to my fellow countrymen who risked their lives for our freedom.

The D Day landing beaches are a memorial to many thousands of very brave soldiers from many nations and this memorial should be visited and respected

This monument sits at the corner of Rue de la Percee and Boulevard de Cauvigny in the village of Vierville-sur-Mer and is located where the 29th National Guard Division broke through the German defenses on June 6, 1944. The monument sits atop a German bunker, which was home to a 88MM gun. Signage on the monument details those NG units who participated in the D-Day landings and assault.

National Guard were the drivers of the landing craft for the Normandy Beach invasion. These service men made numerous trips back and forth from their ships to shore. I was so proud to see this memorial for the National Guard.

This memorial recognizes the impact of the National Guard in the effort to take this beach and begin the invasion and liberation of Normandy. There is plenty of parking on this slight hill overlooking the beach. Next to it is the memorial to the "Bedford Boys". The men of Bedford, Va who gave their lives during the war.

Most of the memorial sites are impressive but I appreciated this one a lot, very well maintained and a lot of history in quotes and names.
