Such a nice place to go on a sunny Saturday! It’s very special and not Swiss at all... Full of nice little shops, bars and restaurants, walk around without any plan to feel the great Carouge Atmosphere.

We went on the International Geneva walking tour with Sacha. He made the tour so much fun, and was so knowledgeable about all the sites, the history. He has such a happy and optimistic view of the world. It was such a fantastic way to experience Geneva.
We highly recommend it!

We caught the tram down to Vieux-Carouge after being recommended by a friend. We really enjoyed the beautiful architecture, the coloured buildings and stylish boutiques. It was also a market day so we tried a beautiful selection of cheeses and cheese and fetta pastries, cooked to order from a side stall. Great food by locals that have obviously been providing street food for many years! Nice and friendly people all around in a really relaxed outdoor street cafe vibe. Would be a shame to come to Geneva and miss this gem

What shall I tell you about the old town of Carouge? I chose to live here, I so much like its atmosphere. The best time to visit it is a Saturday night, between noon and midnight. You kick-off with a lunch at the Marché, then spend some time visiting the market, sit and taste the local wine so you understand why no one ever heard of Geneva wines. Still, they are fit for the purpose, go for it! Walking around the streets won’t take much time, unfortunately, the site is rather small, but sooo many great tiny shops! Do not miss the ice creams, try the local chocolates, cakes! The evenings are dominated by the bars, a few night clubs, great places to chill... enjoy!

Old Carouge is as different of old Geneva that a latin and german town could be and this just a few tram stops apart. Although the place has been colonized by the wealthy and shops have developed in accordance there is still much to enjoy strolling in this sort of village. Very pleasant, under the sun. Guided tours allowing access to some hidden buildings could be an interesting option.

This neighborhood is so charming and easily transports you in a quick second to another time; another country almost. Once a part of Italy, you really will feel like you're wandering the streets of an Italian village rather than a suburb of Geneva. The only negative I would have to say is that the majority of restaurants here close in the middle of the day.

After walking around Old Town in Geneva (where the St. Pierre Cathedral is located), I walked through Carouge.
The Carouge had a different feel to the other places in Geneva. The facade was old but as old as the old town. The pastel colours also made it a bit different. It was quite enjoyable just walking around the area and looking at the shops. There is also a Marel Cafe here to rest for a bit or to recharge with something sweet.
It was a bit far from the main center but you can catch a tram to get here. I opted with walking and the walk along the river was also quite nice. I only had a half day but was happy with spending some time to come here.

After doing a walking tour of Geneva with a local friend we stopped for an apéro on the square un Vieux Carouge. The unusually warm February Sunday afternoon brought out many locals who strolled through the square and enjoyed the warm sun. There were couples, older folks and young families all out and about in this pretty quartier with distinctive architecture.

I suggest walking around the streets of Vieux-Carouge to admire the buildings and then finish your visit with a coffee or a drink on the market square below the church. I didn’t see it on market day. Checking it out on market day (Saturday) would likely make the visit even better.

The bohemian district of Courage -10 minutes off the city centre is the right spot for well-appointed restaurants, stylish bars and modern boutique of local designers. Amazed seeing that this particular area is a bustling hub for the younger generation. I also remember coming across some of the best chocolate patisseries of the city. They can easily remind the visitor of those past decades, to taste the famous handmade Swiss chocolates!

Cute Area, some streets are nicer than the ones in Central Geneva. The only downside was that we decided to walk to a shopping mall and ended up in an unappealing Industrial Area.
