This is a March 2021 review, so Pandemic review. It was like the country had never heard of it or the protocols that were supposed to be in place. It was so uncomfortable with people all around us not wearing masks and sitting so close that we left before sunrise, it was just too much. We went on a Wednesday night, Thursday being a Muslim holiday, so technically we were there Thursday morning. The people we chose to arrange for our jeeps were very kind and helpful. the jeeps seat five, but being a wide-ass American, I know what five seats mean. The front seat is for driver and passenger - where the tallest one should sit, the back seats sit against the side window with two and two facing each other. Be aware that you are climbing up and the infrastructure is tight and curvy. We went to the farthest lookout point for the sunrise, not sure of the name, it had a concrete leveled structure for people to sit on. Very few people had their masks on or if they had a mask it covered their chin and not their mouth and nose. The hawkers are walking and stepping through you and around you. They are tenacious. The ground is cold, bring a blanket to sit on. We left for the sunrise, it was toooo much. It would not have been fun for anyone for me to get angrier than I already was. We did not go to Bromo, we decided to leave. We did not want to deal with numerous, unmasked strangers walking beside us. I had read that we need to make reservations before going bc the Park was painting how many people were entering the park so COVID protocols could be handled. That was fake news. I am just giving you a heads up if this concerns you. You may notice on the way up to the tour and on the way down the lack of mask and 6 feet in the small villages/cities. Maybe some other time or not a sunrise?

There are plenty of providers to take you to Bromo from Malang area. Ours picked us up at the hotel at midnight to gather with all other jeeps on their meeting point (one of the jeep owner's house). They said there are 8 jeeps going together from the meeting point. For safety reasons, jeeps travel in groups but no worries, since going down from Bromo is very personalized to our agenda. We took additional package of someone going with us to took our pictures and show us the photo spots (and directing our poses, hehehe). First spot sunrise at the top. Freezing but plenty of street vendors got everything you need from renting additional cold coat, selling hat, scarf, gloves, etc. The view is breathtaking there. Then down to sand place where we also had fun with the jeep. 3rd place is the crater. 4th place is the tellitubbies' valley. The view is beautiful, the place is neat and clean. Just hoped there's a system to make sure horseman can have equal opportunity to customer without bothering the tourist too much. Maybe a queue system/distant signal from in the middle of the road request?

For the past few months, Mount Bromo was closed for visitors due to covid-19 pandemic and currently Mount Bromo has been reopened for tourists. it can be accessed again with paying attention to safety & health protocols that have been determined by the local government. The location of Mount Bromo is in Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park area there are 4 different ways for tourists to get there. The most often chosen route is from Probolinggo because the access is very easy and there are many hotels available to stay.
To access any places of Mount Bromo, visitors usually use a jeep. But don't worry because of around the location of Mount Bromo, there are so many jeeps that are rented out by local residents for around IDR 500.000.- (penanjakan 1 - Bromo and the meeting points in Sukapura).
Some tips that I can give when you want to visit Mount Bromo are to make sure you have ordered tickets online via because currently tickets can only be purchased online through this site and because there are restrictions of the number of tourists each day, make sure you book the tickets in advance. If you want to stay in the center of Probolinggo city, there is Bromo Park hotel which has very good location, as it is only 1 km from the Probolinggo city station. Bromo Park Hotel also provides tour packages to Mount Bromo which includes car pickup from the hotel to Mount Bromo, a jeep and entrance ticket.

We didn't sleep, left at midnight, we changed into the jeep until we reached the top of a street with many small shops and places to eat. Very crowded with jeeps and people along the road ... The scenery is beautiful at dawn (it is also a bit cold ... better bring a jacket, gloves and hat). We took the jeep again (better take a photo of the plate .. they are all the same and it is easy to confuse them) ... then when we arrive near the volcano we start a long walk to get to the top ... all beautiful ... breathtaking landscape

requires around 3 hours drive from Surabaya to Cemoro Lawang (Bromo area). take a short break to prepare for the view point, Kingkong hill, play in the sea of sand and climb the stairs to see the Bromo crater.
A very memorable trip. If you are looking for a sunrise spot that is no less amazing, try visiting Bromo.

I went to Bromo last December with my family (parents, siblings, cousins). We are kind of anti-mainstream that we didn't choose to do the midnight-early morning tour like other people usually do. We chose to go there nearly midday and travel around until the afternoon (nearly evening though). However, we still have the tour service, complete with the jeep and tour guide, we even got some gloves and beanies, not to forget LUNCH included in the tour!

We arrived at Pasir Berbisik Hills just right after the drizzle. It was cool (not too cold but we still need to wear jackets or jumpers) and luckily it was not too dusty. The tour guide told us it is usually dusty if it doesn't rain. We then visited Teletubbies Hills and went to the other side of the area called Love Hills (Bukit Cinta) to take pictures.

It was definitely a fun hike, my parents could do it regardless their age and physical condition. Also, the great view and fresh air really helped me to relax.

Clearly the best memory that i have from Java Indonesia. This is an unique place and shouldn't think twice about going there, it's totally worth it. The place is huge, there is many things to explore around so be sure to come at least the whole day. Take a jacket as well, cause it's quite cold in the morning.

We did our Bromo adventure by a private tour agency that picked us up at the hotel and droped us there also.

It was an amazing adventure. We did that all with our 2 year old daughter. She slept in the car most of the time and was amazed and happy to see all these wonder of nature.

We where at the major viewing spot for the sunrise and had great weather. If you are early enough you get a good place.

I suggest also to make all the other activities like visiting the crater and the monastery. You have plenty of chances to make great pictures in the countryside.

But never forget it's an active volcano and like we saw in New Zealand things could change instantly so be aware of that also.

But when you are in the Malang region and you have the chance to visit Gunung Bromo, use it and enjoy the wonders of nature.

I also suggest to do it with a Tourguide because it's easier and you support the local economy with that.

Like many other tourists we got up at 3am to have a jeep take us to a view point to see Bromo. After the sun came up we went to see the actual volcano, climb it and take photos.

Let me be clear: it IS super touristy. All the jeeps basically create a traffic jam at 3 in the morning. And when we were there it was low season and because of the corona virus there weren't a lot of tourists. I can only imagine how it will be during an average high season.

However, if you look past the tourists, it's a beautiful experience. The views are great and the sunrise is almost magical. The hiking is a little intense because of the altitude but if you're in good health it's not impossible. Going up Bromo only took us about 20-25 mins. If you wish, you can take a horse to get you halfway (we didn't).

Bromo is great if you want to take some good photos!

If you go with an organised jeep tour you don't have a lot of time at Bromo (maybe like 1 hour or 1h5). It might be worth it to organise a jeep with a local yourself and arrange a bit more time.
