The Laveno funivia (cableway) carries one or two people to the overlook from Sasso del Ferro and it is a thrill from bottom to top to bottom. It starts with a decision to take an open or closed "bucket" that will take you to the...More

Visited on Monday morning in Late June. The cable cars run every 20 minutes or so stopping for an hour over lunch. No queues and our car was only half full which meant plenty of space to move around and take in the views and...More

Despite that the carriage is a bit scary, it gives the funivie a rustic feel. The baskets flooring is see through and you ride high above ground looking out over Lago Maggiore. I loved this as a child, and returning to Laveno as an adult...More

We decided to try this. They are two person cable cars, some open, some closed! It takes you to the top where there is a snack bar and also a restaurant.

I've been on the bucket funicular many times now and it's always fabulous. It's our 'go-to' activity when we have visitors to the area. There's a certain thrill in jumping into a moving bucket and being bundled up a mountain. The staff are always helpful,...More

I think your parents will be fine. You need to step into the buckets but they are not too high off the ground, approximately 30cm. When you hop on and off there are operators to open and close the door on the bucket. They... More

No, more like just above the waist. It is a bit scary if you have vertigo. There are enclosed cabins as well, we didn't try but could be claustrophic!
