Best viewed in the early part of the day before the bustle of the crowds impede on the ambiance of the location. It is of both historical and religious significance to the existence of Asturias and we witnessed this with the reverence and dignity of locals visiting the shrine. The nearby basilica is stunning and with refreshment and regional souvenirs... More

Long tunnel leading to the Sanctuary of the precious carving of the Virgin of Covadonga and the grave of Pelagius of Asturias plus the Catholic is lovely as well in the mountains.

A very remote cathedral and chapel in the mountains. The chapel is beautifully situated in a cliff and you enter through a tunnel which is lit by candles. Must go for the mass which is very moving due to the atmosphere of a pulpit open to nature for the cliff side.

Another must see in Asturias. If you love the mountains and fresh air, don't miss out on this beautiful place! It really shows the beauty of mountainous Spain.

Great place with an outstanding cultural richness. From The Cave, which contains a precious carving of Virgin Covadonga (XVI century) and the grave of Pelagius of Asturias (probably the most important Visigoth King nobleman), Alfonso I of Asturias and their wives, to the beautiful basilica, the place is surrounding by picturesque, calm and relaxing nature views. From this place, you... More

We just loved the place, its vibe, the culture, the history, and how well looked after this sanctuary is. In other countries you would get charged an entry fee to visit such a gem, not here. This is a great place to visit, especially on a sunny day.

I had been told about the place, but when you are there is really special! It fits more religious tourism but also fantastic for nature lovers! Indeed remarkable the location, and all the environment!

The Santuario and the Cave are located in an impressive view of mountains and valleys. The church is very nice but the cave where pilgrims go is very emotive.

The place es overwhelming, there is no other way to describe it. Extremely beautiful and well kept , if you like religious monuments with a lot of history you cannot miss this.
