I Walled Around Here Each Day During My Stay in Mykonos
Mykonos town is walkable and my hotel is very central. I strolled around everyday during my 3-day stay in Mykonos. It's a nice and cozy walk around the old port. Watching ferries, people and beautiful sceneries. There are quite some decent restaurants too.

    Beautiful
Colourful and beautiful, it’s my favourite spot in Mykonos. Sadly it’s a bit spoiled in the summer by the tourists with their high heels and selfies, and endless herds of them. The restaurants are out of reality expensive as are the souvenir shops.

Crescent shaped beach along the Old Port
The Old Port is along a nice crescent shaped beach in Mykonos. My wife and I visited in October, so we missed the hordes of people in the summer. We strolled the beach once in the early evening on our way to a restaurant overlooking the harbor. It is a picturesque area.

Mykonos’ old port is a lovely area for walking and exploring. We first did this walk in the day time but at night, it’s even prettier as the lights and reflections sparkle across the water.
Starting from Old Port Beach, we followed the curve of the beach towards the old town. We couldn’t walk entirely along the waterfront and at the end of the beach we had to cut through the old town, past the tiny, red-domed Agia Anna church, before heading back down to the water.
We passed private luxury yachts and cruisers, as well as smaller, colourful fishing boats. We kept an eye out for the local pelicans but we didn’t see any.
We stopped briefly at Manto Mavrogenous Square to check out the statue of the 19th century Greek freedom-fighter after whom the square is named. The waterfront along here is lined by pricey restaurants and bars and shops selling sunhat, beach bags and souvenirs.
The walk finishes at the charming little blue-domed church of St Nicholas. Patron saint of fishermen, St Nicholas sits right on the waterfront, watching over the sea and offering protection to the boats and fishermen who set out each day from here. It is mostly always open and is worth stopping for a quick look inside.
Opposite the church is the old town hall. It’s rather plain and won’t catch your eye.
If, like us, you want to keep exploring, it’s very easy to just continue around the headland, past the Jackie O club, to the much-photographed Paraportiani Church and on to the Little Venice area and the famous Mykonos windmills.
Even if you walk right around to the windmills, it is not a long walk.
TIP: It is worth noting that the ticket kiosk for the boat tours to Delos is located next to the church. We planned to pre-book tickets but they told us we could easily turn up on the day and buy tickets on the spot - helpful advice and this was what we ended up doing. The boat leaves from here also.

Such a beautiful port to visit, the windmills are great, the views are breathtaking and the people are also great. The alleys are so cute with so many little shops in all the alleys!

This crescent shaped bay has turquoise colored watch with a variety of restaurants and stores. Easy to walk and fun to sit and enjoy a cold beverage while watching the sun set over the bay.

Nice to stroll around but so noisy during July.It was really crowded when we decided to take a walk owing to the tourists from cruise ships that made such a fuss.Better to be visited before peak season if you want to enjoy it.

The old town is not only historical but really special, it's great to get lost in the alleyways. Definitely get a guided tour to get more information

We visited the island for just one day as part of cruise.
We came from the new port to visit the old port using the sea bus (see other review)
We visited the Little Venice area and the windmills from the old port.
The whole of the old port area was so beautiful and we just wandered and strolled.
Whilst we never really knew where we were it’s easy to remember downhill leads to the port.
The colour of the front door apparently relates to the trade of the person who lives within , blue for sailor / fisherman is the most common but there’s also a sprinkling of red and mustard.

Location/what is it about: The old port and the centre ('Chora') in Mykonos are the main attraction in Mykonos for tourists and visitors, rightly so. Very photogenic place. It is nice to stroll through the streets and narrow alleys, admire the whitewashed houses with colourful window frames, doors, stairs, lush plants, flowers. Well-maintained and immaculate (cleanliness). There are many bars, restaurants, shops, souvenirs, high-end brands. During the spring and summer months, for example, there is the Louis Vuitton concept store (usually with no queue), very different from the store in Paris (in terms of shopping experience and offer).

The place has many contemporary influences and caters to a public with a predilection for luxury (therefore a pricey place), but there are also plenty of authentic elements to be found. During our visit, for example, there were dancers on the quay of the old port and Greek live music. The ruins and remains of the old castle in Mykonos ('Kastro') are worth a visit as well.

Lively place during the day and evening. We visited the place at a calm time when almost no ferries and cruise ships were docked in the port. We had a pleasant experience and were able to leisurely stroll through the streets. There was plenty of room in the bars and restaurants. However, we have heard from a local source during the high season (particularly July and August) the streets are overrun with people, which sometimes makes it less pleasant to be there. For example, long waiting times for food and drinks if you don't have a reservation. Consider this in your travel planning.

It is a safe place. For example, you don't have to worry too much about pickpockets.

Admission fee (budget range): Free to visit but pricey in terms of food, drinks, shopping.

Mykonos Old Port and Chora are places to see and be seen. Must-visit in Greece. We would happily visit again.
