The earthen embankments of this old fort form the perimeter for a huge area. If you walk or drive the full extent of the walls, you will be impressed. The fort was built during the reign of Rama III, to help defend against invading Vietnamese. The most accessible area of the fort also has a main entrance tower (reconstructed?) and a collection of some 33 old cannons.

The old fort is close by to the maritime museum. It was built by King Taksin when his army was driven out of Siam by the Burmese in the mid 1700's. He used the fort to regroup and rebuild his army and navy to successfully retake Siam. An incredible feat, given they were driven out and beaten by The invading Burmese. The fort is in ruins now but much of the walls, towers and some cannons can still be seen.

This ancient fort is located close to the maritime museum. It is well preserved and has more than 30 cannons, most of them 200-250 years old.

Noen Wong fort is right beside the National Maritime Museum so therefore by combining the 2 it is really worthwhile visiting. Built during King Rama lll reign about 1834AD it was designed to repulse the Vietnamese however much has been grown over but there is still ample to see. The main entrance is there and can be climbed to the observer point; part of the walled fortress is very accessible and has a lot of old cannon there ranging from babies to the big daddy’s. A close look will tell you these cannon are from Britain and France and the direction they are pointing in certainly was strategic as you can see quite a distance.
