superb castle and garden, easy access from Gare du Nord (hoping there are no strikes). very nice collection (arms, clothes, jewerly) it takes 2h30 to make the visit very well explained. Only drawback is the small font of the explanation in blue in the artefact showcase.

Renaissance museum in a Renaissance chateau. One of the greatest places to visit in the Paris area that NOBODY seems to know about!! I have visited Ecouen's chateau many times and most often have found myself virtually alone in the museum. This is not because the collection is bad, but because it takes some effort to get there. The effort... More

What a great day trip. Depart Gare du Nord towards luzarches at the Ezanville encoeun stop. Follow clear signage to either the bus or the nice jaunt thru the forest, a bit hilly for Houston flats girl. Entrance is up the stairs, from city side or thru the forest. Lovely building, lovely collection and great staff. Note, the museum is... More

The museum is wonderful. Terrific exhibits bur rather disorganized. There were guide sheets written in a few languages and some in English but the ones in English soon disappeared. There is NO restaurant and no decent place to eat in town. Getting there can be a challenge. We were staying in Roissy (a charming, interesting village) and took two buses.... More

Great castle from the 1500s which houses a renaissance museum. Not as touristy as other historic monuments in the Paris region. Easy to get to: take the train at Gare du Nord and get off at Ecouen. Unless you have trouble walking I recommend walking from the station through the woods up to the castle. Allow an hour and and... More

We enjoyed the 20 minute walk from the station through the "foret" and the sudden appearance of the magnificent building. The daily closure from 1235 to 2 pm is annoying, given the time it takes to reach Ecouen and the mot very good restaurant attached. However, the chateau staff are welcoming and friendly and the collections of Renaissance artifacts are... More

We have been here previously and took a friend this time - it was a wonderful way to spend several hours in the morning, stop at the restaurant for lunch and take a short walk in the gardens. Many previous comments are right on - not too easy to reach but it is worth the time. Not everything is explained... More

In the "Chateau d'Ecouen" is located the Musée national de la Renaissance in Ecouen, not far from Paris. It is a very big castle, and so is its content. It offers art from the 15th tot the 17th century with furnitures, walltapistry, ceramics, emails, glasswall etc... Be curageous to see it all, and if it happens that you're visiting around... More
