About
Less than 200 kilometres south of Paris, nestling between the cities of Tours and Blois, is a haven of poetry. A natural oasis, a headland stretching out 40 metres above the wild Loire, the Domain of Chaumont-sur-Loire, owned by the Centre Region, welcomes the public all year round to its chateau and park and, from April to the end of October, the unmissable International Garden Festival. Whatever the season, the chateau - once the home of Catherine de Medici, Diane de Poitiers and Princess de Broglie - beckons you indoors to admire its welcoming and lavishly furnished interiors. The International Garden Festival has been providing a unique panorama of landscape design all over the world since 1992. At the same time a source of ideas and a nursery for talent, the Festival gives an extra boost to the art of gardens and gains the interest of both the public and those in the trade by displaying new flower arrangements, new materials, new ideas and new approaches.

Feel ripped off. This is the 5th Chateau on our trip around the Loire, it it also the most expensive and has the least to offer. The chateau itself is full of 'digital art' and other galleries. There are 3 or 4 rooms that are worth looking at but overall, we wish we had not have visited. €20 per person here, other chateaux are between €14 and €15.50 and they are incredibly presented and rich in history. Give this place a miss, most of it is derelict.
Tip:Avoid this chateau, go to any and all others that are fantastic

One the prettiest chateaus in the region. Interior is mainly modern art exhibitions, so you get a different vibe from this experience. Highly recommended.

What a fantastic experience this is; we spent over 3 happy hours around the gardens before even getting tot he chateau, and still had not seen everything.
The chateau is stunning externally, in a great setting and they have cleverly made the interior more interesting with a good range of modern art installations, most of which work really well.
If you want to see everything here, you need at least 6 hours and plenty of stamina.

On this visit we have found Chenonceau and Chaumont both really hard to beat, for different reasons

Going off season has its advantages, zero queues and no crowding and rubbing shoulders with noisy visitors. We were lucky in October with beautiful weather and the parking was a gift, just outside the main entrance. Inside the parklands are superbly laid out with breathtaking views at every turn. The planting is magnificent and the trees are the stars. The plant festival was also very enjoyable with easy access to each one and you can get up real close to the plants and the garden designs. Lots of inspiration for any gardener. The art t installations were a very pleasant bonus and gave us a chance to sit and rest our feet at times. 3 great cafes and restaurants and lots of toilet facilities too. We spent six hours and could have spent another couple bar we were worn out. The chateau and stables are architecturally brilliant but the chateau is a bit disappointing inside but we came for the gardens so we’re not concerned…. If you love gardening and art this is a must see.

Had pre booked entrance which made life easy. Good security, bags checked. Another fantastic chateau, river view awesome. Fantastic garden displays the only slight disappointment is that some of the rooms lacked furniture when other places have more to offer.
Overall value for money.
The good news is that you are spoilt for choice with Amboise and Blois close by and for stunning views try Chenencaux, done inside and the boat trip through the arches, stunning.
Go do it!

This is really not very well maintained and there are only a few rooms to see. Although much of the original furniture was sold, they have tried to purchase pieces to fill the rooms. In the last room, it is like they purchased as much as they could and piled it all out for display. It made no sense and was odd.

The best part of this chateau is the horse stables, which is not very well maintained, and the gardens. The view of the Loire River and the valley is pretty.

We would skip this chateau as it really wasn’t well maintained and there wasn’t much to see.

Fantastic! At first you may think it’s expensive compared to other chateaus. But after a couple of hours we thought it was very good value for money. We walked around for four hours and still didn’t see all of the grounds. Electronic art exhibition upstairs almost bought me to tears. Beautiful. We will go again next year to see the rest of the gardens and grounds.

Free parking down by the river a couple blocks away, the chateau sits atop a hill you must climb upon entry. The draw is the festival of art, both inside and outside in the park gardens. Well worth at least an hour or two if you are planning which chateaus to visit in the Loire Valley.

I had high hopes for the garden festival here. It was ok. It was very crowded, which didn't help the enjoyment. The brochure was critical to understand what the gardens were trying to achieve. I will say the gardens were very well laid out and it was easy to find the next garden. The Chateau itself was fine - the line to get in was initially very long, so I first went to the gardens and later the line had gone down. The one thing in the building that really impressed me were the tapestries. I feel like they were trying to do too much adding art to various parts of the Chateau and stables.

What a wonderful castle. Charming and well kept. I really loved the way they show of the history and at the same time present modern art. The castle itself is worth the visite, but the stables are great as well - and the gardens. I really loved the gardens of the international garden show. So much to see.
