Etna on your own (ish)!

The cable car up to the middle station is wonderful but a little expensive for a family of 5. We did not spend the extra on the 4 x 4 as we had 3 geography "Experts" with us so we... read more

During winter there is ski resort and during summer you could do your own trip, just drive with car to Etna Sud…the road is nice and you will see Lava flow all the time. Park your car and take cable car…to upper part, where you are very close to the Etna top, with good view (price 9 eur per person).... More

The cable car up to the middle station is wonderful but a little expensive for a family of 5. We did not spend the extra on the 4 x 4 as we had 3 geography "Experts" with us so we just went for a wonder over the lava flow and imagined skiing here in the winter!

Easily accessible from Taormina or really anywhere on the East Sicilian Coast. The road up to the Cable Car is a maze through the lava field - showcasing destruction of houses, cars and even hotels! The cable car itself is so-so but I have to recommend the truck up to 3000m - they show you a crater (nb not THE... More

We took the trip all the way up to the top: funivia, 4X4 bus, guided tour. Great experience, expensive though; paid 62 euros per person.

This one point is a bit misleading...as it was not working due to strong winds (in April)....better safe then sorry, of course.....but still it was a bit disappointing!

Quick and easy way to get up Etna. Very expensive but saves an arduous hike that gives you more time to hike and explore around the craters.

Great views from the top of Mt Etna. Dress warm though, it was a cold ride up! A little pricey though

Yes, the view is great as the Cableway takes you up to 2500 meters. I still think 35 euros is a tourist rip-off though. People just tolerate it because its a one-time deal. Which is why i am giving it an average review.

We went up Etna on a beautiful day, rising from sunshine at sea level, through heavy cloud and rain, and back into sunshine on snow at the top, with clear visibility. The cable-car was enjoyable, and the 4x4 bus through the cleared snow towards the summit was great. BUT ... a lot of minus points: the "alpine guide" for which... More

The ride is awesome. You first come by a snow covered slope (in the right season) with black lava patches. At times you see neither bottom nor top of the path, but almost at the end there is smoke coming out the mountain.
