Gabriele picked us up at the train station in "Daphne", his Land Rover Defender. Thus began an amazing tour of the marble quarries. The vistas, narrow winding roads, quarries in various stages of cutting, trucks moving the stone and the humbling immensity of the mountains were all supplemented by Gabriele's explanation of the history and mechanics of cutting and moving... You will learn & see everything about Carrarra marble - from why it is unique to how it is mined and finished. Knowledgeable guide explains the entire history from why all Michelangelo's marble & the Roman Colosseum came from here. New insights into both getting marble outside from the face of the mountain and within. Great value for a modest... More

This was a fantastic experience. The tour is well organized and provides grand views of the area not to mention the quarries. The experience was one of our top tours taken! The amazing process, history and experience is memorable. Really glad we took this tour!

Gabrielle picked us up from La Spezia with "Dafne"! His favourite Landy. Gabrielle knows his stuff, this tour is very interesting and the views are outstanding. There is no radio in the Landy but Gabrielle provides his own soundtrack, haha! Every member of our family (47, 44, 16, 15, & 11) enjoyed this trip. At the end of our tour... More

Exceeded our expectations. (Which was already 5-star thanks to previous Yelp reviewers). Haike our guide was so personable, fun, and knowledgeable (and a great jeep driver who we trusted with out life ;) We had a blast. We made the call this morning (this cell contact number worked better for us +39 328 0993322) and she met us at the... More

We arrived in La Spezia as part of our Mediterranean cruise and were faced with the choice of visiting Florence or Pisa and Marble quarries...We chose Pisa and the marble quarries. The bus ride initially took us north along the cliffs along the coast and as we went up and up and up on the narrow mountain roads, the view... More

This tour should absolutely be in you bucket list! An offroad drive "over the rainbow" with steep inclinations and breath-taking views. We had a very nice guide, with perfect sense of humor, explaining how the marble is cut, how they did it long ago and etc. We were taken to active quarries and could see the process live. Recommended 100%!

We had some extra time and chose to visit the marble quarries. What an experience! This is a must do for any visitor coming close to Carrara. The marble which spans from La Spezia all the way to Lucca is breathtaking. The different shades of white and gray absolutely stunning. Even our teenager was fascinated. Heike, our tour guide, was... Amelia Menegoni is a third generation Carrara marble historian. Her grandfather and father worked in the marble quarries. Her tour of the quarries above Carrara are full of anecdotes and historical accuracy. She is engaging, very knowledgeable and sincere. Please reach out to her for a personal, unforgettable experience. You can find her by emailing: ameliamenegoni@hotmail.com

This is a defining experience. Seriously. You take the ride with 4x4 offroad vehicles, they bring you up to the mines, where you realise how small you are. 10x3x3 meter marble cubes are everywhere, huge working engines are waiting around, beautiful view to Cinque Terre. You are not allowed to drive your own car up to the mines, but when... More
