Elegant and graceful bridge linking Penang with Butterworth on the mainland. The 13.5 km long bridge opened in 1982. Before that, people traveling to Penang had to take a ferry across the strait.

The Penang Bridge Penang Bridge is a 13.5-kilometre dual carriageway toll bridge and controlled-access highway in the state of Penang, Malaysia.
The bridge was the first and, until 2014, the only road connection between the peninsula and the island.
The bridge is the second-longest bridge over water in Malaysia, with a length over water of 8.4 kilometers.

This bridge is a fantastic piece of civil engineering as well as a great bridge to drive on. Crossing to Butterworth the views over the water are worth thr drive.

We left the island via this one, having entered on the other. This was much busier and not as much of an experience as the other, but still worth driving.

Stop here while on the way to Penang island. The whole bridge was quite a good sight, especially when you look out into the sea and also the whole frontal island view. We tookk some photos of the centre of the bridge. Other than that nothing much exciting.

The route to mainland Butterworth and the KTM train station from outside Georgetown is quicker by the bridge though the ferry departs just opposite. On arrival my taxi would have preferred the bridge but I insisted on the old world charm of the ferry crossing with a sea breeze, it took us 1,5 hours to get to Tanjung Bungah. Returning I believed a professional and we reached the station in one hour over the bridge.

This is a bridge that connect the mainland Malaysia to Penang Island. This bridge is 24 km long and is a dual carriage. The sea looks so serene and still. This bridge can be compared to London bridge. This is the longest bridge in Malaysia and the fourth largest in South East Asia and it is worth while travelling on it. There is a toll booth on the bridge.

Impressed with the bridge as we drove across to visit relatives in the main land. It was a pleasant and smooth drive. Sunny and calm sea.

For us this bridge is nothing else than a traffic connection between Butterworth and Pulau Penang. Probably for a construction lover this bridge is a beauty. For us this bridge is a useful road to come from a-b

Managed to squeeze few hours going across the bridge. Intended to go to Design Village. The “new” bridge was spectacular. Long stretch of road with sea view. WOW moment!!!
