Simple yet interesting way of seeing the two jetty's , While going from George town its free and returning cost around MYR 1.5 per person , Seems safe ferry which also have cars & motor bikes been transported along with people , Locals use for daily commuting , nice view & average 15 minutes for one side trip, once in... We took the trip from Penang to Langkawi in the ferry. Since we went in Oct which is the rainy season, the sea was very rough. Being our first ride we took seats in the lower deck and in the front. This turned out to be a very bad idea 10 min into the journey. We quickly moved to the... More

Didn't take long. No serious waves even though there had been plenty of rain. Kind of creepy having to ride on the lower level surrounded by cars -but no choice there. All in all I liked the experience of riding the ferry itself. Do move to the front of the boat where exit is easier and quicker. You can also... More

This place has served Penang for many years and if you take from Penang to main land - it's free. Enjoy the Penang Ferry ride if you've the opportunity. Early in the morning can see sunrise.

I'm not sure if the seas are always as rough as they were on our trip from Penang to Langkawi but it was not fun...and I don't suffer from sea or motion sickness. I was hoping we might spot some ocean life like dolphins or whales but not a creature was seen. I heard later on that it is almost... More

We got the ferry over to Butterworth for a few hours, just for fun. Ferry over was great, nice & cool on the ferry, good views out the side windows. Free going over. Bit of a hike to get down to the taxi/bus part when you land. Found out later there was a free shuttle bus that would have taken... More

The ferry rides are quite enjoyable & not bad at all. I use the ferry about once a week by car on the ferry. The ferries look run down generally but the scenery and the windy breeze along the ride makes up for it.

I ride my bike and take ferry from Penang to Butterworth. It is free in this direction! It only charges from Butterworth to Penang. The ticket is 1RM per person and a bike is few cents. Ferry is open space with a wonderful view. However, all the cars exhausted gas can be smelled.
