This is not the right time to visit this place as Forest department put dry leaves on fire on almost all of the hill so you will lot of smokes around and visibility reduced drastically. You will not be able to see cleary the near hill (mountain) as well. Not a recommended time to visit Nainital

Very nice place for views. It should be ranked 2nd on the list of places to visit in Nainital (1st being the Naini Lake). The place being highest spot, provides a very good view of the Naini Lake, specially in late evening time (though I missed the pretty view, but one can judge through available pictures on Instagram). The trekking path too is nice enough. It is about 3 Kms climb from the last motorable point on road. I had taken a bike taxi from Nainital and asking him to drop me to the last motorable point from which I could start the trek. The trek is quite steep at places, so for the first timers, it may feel a bit tough. It took me 1.5 hrs reaching to the top, walking at very slow, brisk place. For experienced trekkers or for someone with good stamina, it could be completed in 1 hr I guess. The downward trek had taken just 40 mins. There is a snacks shop too up there, which lies about 200 mtrs before the view point, and is on same elevation as viewpoint (i.e. walking from the shop to the viewpoint is no trouble). The shop is actually a residence of Police Admin housing some technical equipments. One can have maggi and coffee over there, they make absolutely fabulous maggi and Coffee! Up there on top, on the view point, there is enough flat place for 30-40 people to stand and talk, and few people seem to trek upto there. So it is quite spacious and quiet there. I witnessed just 3-4 groups of people visiting there in a time period of 3 hrs. One can sit and have own brought up snacks too there. In the evening it becomes too cold, and while the trekking path is clear enough and wide enough, the local trekkers informed me that sighing of dangerous animals are not rare. So if you trek solo, the advise is to start for trek down before the darkness falls. This will also mean that one would miss the magical evening views of the lake from up there. So it is advisable to either go up there with friends, or to tag along with other group if staying till late evening. All in all, a must visit spot of Nainital. The total visit may take 4 hrs of time, but it is worth it. I feel the time to start for the trek should be about 3:30 PM, so that one reaches to the top by 5 PM, just before the darkness starts engulfing the area. And one can start for down, with friends, after the darkness just falls, may be around 5:30 in winter.

It's a good trek to have in Nanital and can be easily be done without a guide. However as a personal experience, there is a main route to trek, and there are some little paths to side experiences. If you're willing to take some risk (which I don't recommend if you're not very familiar with trekking and sense

Excellent scenic view of the lake and Nainital Valley surrounded by the hills. Nainital local authority should construct a proper platform at the location.
