The Phong Nha cave is a wet cave. The trip starts in the village and we travelled along the river down to the cave. In the cave the engine is cut off and we were actually paddled/rowed about 2 km return trip in the cave. That on its own explains why the americans could never beat the Vietnamese ;-) The... More

We had seen Paradise cave first then proceeded to Phong Nha . We travelled in by boat and we were both in awe of the size of it . We then walked back on the dry side seeing much more . Fantastic cave and so glad we did decide to visit .

You can visit any of the caves without doing an excursion. Motorbikes/mopeds are cheap to hire 100000VND for the day, dont get put off by the city traffic you've witnessed previously there is very little traffic out here. The scenery may not be the most amazing but it is pretty stunning. To go trekking you will need a guided tour.

We chose to kayak through this cave instead of doing the dragon boat tour. It was more expensive but totally worth it. Bonus features of this tour: You get to explore the cave in-depth (4.5 km in), an excellent lunch is provided, all gear and transport from Phong Nha is provided, you get to move to quiet dark areas of... Make your way to the main dock station, you will pay to park your motor bike. Then you go to the ticket booth and buy your tickets, you can either got solo or wait for other fellow travelers to make a small group, the last one is the cheapest. I waited for others travelers and talked to them about the... More

A place that you must see once during your life. The calm serenity of drifting through the caves reminded me of a Venice gondala. Such a peaceful and surreal experience. 100% recommended.

We were at the Geminia cafe and asked about the caves. They nicely got us a private car to take us to Phong Nha and wait for us to then bring us back for 600 VND ($26). When you get to Phong Nha you pay the entrance plus you also need to pay for a boat to take you in.... More
