The zoo happens to be the best manicured of all the zoos we had ever seen. The entry ticket to the zoo is quite cheap. The zoo showcases a wide variety of animals, birds, insects and reptiles..the museum attached to the zoo is a rare feast to the eyes. The park also rests rare species of trees like Peepli, the zoo houses a wide and rare range of birds and fishes, red panda, cheetah & other animals. The animals are well protected with clear guidelines to the visitors. The guards show a rare affection for the animals and are on their toes for the flora and fauna of the landscape. The washrooms are clean. A neat array of shops offer gift items, native dress and similar stuff. The up and down journey may be a bit tiring but is quite well compensated by the flora and fauna.

The well kept zoo despite the vast area. Roads and walkways were well maintained. The animals were not "caged" but in the open and in protected areas. One advice for travellers - please do not become the animals or birds and try to imitate their calls or cries. Let them be and you will be able to site them. If you enjoy walking in jungle trails this is THE place. We visited during end November, ideal weather I feel, to walk around the steep climbs and descents. One really needs to be a nature lover to enjoy the place rather than visiting this place to just make a tick mark to your itinerary. And yes don't go with pre-conceived ideas. Enjoy as long as you can. Happy visiting to the future visitors.

The zoological park is absolutely stunning. We saw the Himalayan Leopard, Red Panda and Black Bear among others. Highly recommend a higher entry fee which will hopefully contribute to even better upkeep of the animals and their areas.
For those planning on visiting, I would urge you to do the following:
1. If you’re traveling with kids: please maintain silence and inform your kids about the importance of just observing animals in their natural habitat
2. If you’re terrified of animals: please don’t go and scream, it only scares the animals and disrupts the environment there

Other than the above mentioned points, if you’re keen on appreciating nature, you should visit.
Keep a minimum of 3 hours to walk and take in the beauty.

its situated at 8000 ft, about 20 minutes from MG RD.
make sure to go in a cab, cause after the entrance its a 2 km drive to the animals.
also it may be difficult to get a ride back.
currently some renovations are ongoing.
we saw 2 large leopards, red panda, vultures, deer, cat leopards, porcupines, and a variety of pheasants.
great views of Mt Kanchenjunga from the watch tower.
great fun walking in the endogenous fauna and flora

The wildlife enclosure is somewhat underwhelming, with only a handful of animals and birds, numbering less than ten in total. The lack of effective management is evident, as there are no clear markings or signs to guide visitors. It appears that the facility is not being managed efficiently. Overall, unless you have a strong desire to see a red panda, the experience may not be worth the visit.

It's quite a good zoo, with few caged animals. But these are slightly scattered and hence u need to walk a bit more. I was with my 3 yo so couldn't complete entire zoo but if you are fond of walking, this could be a good option. As far as animals, there are few who you can see over there.

I like the concept of landscape and exhibit design as well as pathways to reach different exhibits. You can feel real forest habitat around you with full of oxygen. Management should invest in animal care and designing the exhibit. Very less enrichment available for animals. No zoo staff to interact. No proper sign boards, and animal info. No proper conservation and education activities.

Place have much potential to establish itself in ecotourism and wildlife conservation canvas. Proper management, planning, developing human resources and adequate funding will help this zoo to grow and spread the wildlife conservation and education values.

It’s a 20min drive from MG road. The drive to the national park is scenic. Ticketing process is a bit old school but the whole national park is worth a visit for the flora and fauna.

This is a famous zoo in Gangtok known for Red Panda. It is more like a forest layout near animal habitat. The maintenance is not good. No food options except for some small restaurants opposite the zoo entrance.
