We reached the beach after sunset. The water was far away. It wasn’t well lit and there were just a few guys sitting in the walls near the beach. It is totally avoidable.

Karaikal beach is one of the main tourist attractions in karaikal. There is no public transport to the beach, u have to take your own vehicle or go by walk from the nearest bus stop which is around 1.5kms from the beach. If u wanted to go for a walk or jog, it is a perfect place. Usually it is very less crowded except Sundays. People are not allowed to enter the shore area after 6 in the evening.

Small town with basic infrastructure. Apart from the Saniswaran temple the beach is something worth a visit. We happened to visit in the night and were skeptical about the crowd but it turned out to be a pleasant evening. There was plenty of lighting and quiet a few families, it seemed safe and lively. We couldn't see much of the beach or sea as it was dark but we could make it would have been scenic, we could see an inlet and some mangroves.
There is a basic eatery and park and a highly littered lawn. Had the place been rubbish free it would certainly have been a splendid tourist spot. There is abundant parking and lines of the usual beach shops.

I wanted to see Karaikal. Reason: I love Pondicherry and I thought that Karaikal will have some resemblance with Pondy. No, it has deffinitely no resemblance to Pondy. The city is drab and dirty - no charm at all.
We visited the beach on a grey day; not to bath but just to get a feeling for the place. Good so, because on the beach are posters from drowned people (showing them in various degrees of decomposing) installed (in regular intervalls). I got quite a 'Fellini-Feeling'..... Our driver just parked the car close to the Beach Front. I realized that a police officer was observing us taking pictures. When we wanted to drive away, he stopped our driver, a long discussion to place with obvious menacing. The police officer extorted finally 500 Rupees (no receipt was given.......) and we could finally leave. We will surely never go back.........

Karaikal beach or seashore (we generally call) is where famous Asalar branch of Karaikal joins with sea. Another branch of Arasalar is on T.R.Pattinam side and it merges with sea there-where all local deities converge for Masi Magam festival,which falls on Feb-March.
To reach real beach side with sand pilings and domes, we have to walk a little bit. Now entire road from Arasalar bridge to seashore is being well laid out and maintained well.During my latest visit to my town, on Dec 8th,2017, I visited Karaikal beach and spent some valuable time with my family there.
Not much crowd when I visited on working day, but during weekend this place is crowded. Entire road running around 5 kms are well lit now. We saw few boats riding on Arasalar river.
During Pongal festival, all 3 days are crowded and many roadside temporary shop will do roaring business. In particular, during my school days(1960-1970), Kanum Pongal was very famous for beach visit and really good crowd,say hughe crowd will surge the spot for revelling. Our main point will be kite flying on that day and one can witness a kite mela like atmosphere. OMG, what good time we had 3-4 decades ago!!!

The beach is calm and beautiful. You can see a river merging into the sea here. The river flows almost 5 kms into the town and you can see fishing boats parked in the river.
You need to walk close to a kilometer from the car parking slot to the beach. These measures seems to be taken by the Administration post the Tsunami damages of 25th Dec 2004.
There is a beautiful long road running parallel to the beach on which you can go for a ride and enjoy the sea breeze and see the sea at a distance.
Its a beautiful place to relax and enjoy with family and friends.

Karaikal is an outpost of the erstwhile French Colony of Pondichéry. While Karaikal does not retain the original French character that Pondichéry does, one of the must must visit places is the extensive beach. The Government is developing the area as a big tourist attraction.
We visited in the morning and were lucky to catch the sun rising from the sea. Apart from a handful of morning walkers, there were few people. The beach is nearly a couple of kilometers long, bounded on the south by a creek, which also offers a good walkway for over 2 km with good vistas of fisherman’s boats. One can also see some excellent examples of mangrove trees around the creek. All in all a good experience

This beach will be crowd less. You have to walk for a while to reach there.
Avoid this place during sunny days.
Its a nice place to take photos near backwaters. You can also enjoy in backwaters but careful at the rocks in it. It will be sharp as blades and it tear the skin as blades

The place around the beach is well maintained with a Park and activities during the evening. The beach is a long walk from the road, but less crowded and cleaner than the nearby beaches. The waves were quite strong while we visited and got to see quite a few jelly fish in the water.
