It’s a little, local museum with quite random objects exhibited. It’s right next to the park so it’s easy to just go in, make a quick tour and be out in 10-15 min. The display of statues of the Hindu gods is interesting.

A bit disappointing as few of the objects had a description still less any context of how they fitted in with Pondicherry. It wasn’t possible to take photos which might have encouraged me to do further study. This includes the Chola statues and Arikamedu Roman finds. It was as if the French had left in 1954 and no one had thought to update much.

Sort of strange museum with quite little information about the things on display. It’s basically a lot of stuff from different time periods. Everything from bronze statues to old furniture and a room full of rocks. If you have some time to spare it’s worth a visit but don’t go out of your way to fit this place in

Small museum with some good artefacts and collection, but seems poorly maintained. The items on display can use a bit of cleaning and maintenance

The museum houses artefacts discovered during the excavation of the Arikamedu heritage site, such as stones, jewellery, coins, and statues. In the first century BC through the second century AD, these depict Pondicherry's importance as a trading port. There are also bronze sculptures and stone carvings on display at the museum that illustrate the vibrant culture of the Pallava and Chola dynasties. The museum also displays remnants of the French colonial period. Among the furnishings are office tables, sofas, large mirrors, cots, treasury boxes, and jewel boxes used by Mr. Dupleix, the French Groverner. The museum contains a large collection of stones and ores from all over the country. Transportation vehicles from the 18th and 19th centuries were also on display. The entry fee for the Pondicherry museum is Rs. 10 for adults and Rs. 5 for children. Admission to the museum is Rs. 50 for foreign visitors. Pondicherry Museum is open from 9 am to 6:30 pm on all days except Mondays and national holidays. Oveall it is worthful visit.

Museum was open but they didn't have electricity. One staff person said I could go in and take a quick look, other staff person said I couldn't go in. They fought amongst themselves and a third person came out and said people not allowed inside. I had to leave and didn't get to see the museum since we were traveling back to Chennai.

The Museum collection brings lot of pride as Indian with early civilization of Arikamedu. The Chola dynasty history is exciting. I was impressed with the collection of various stones and most importantly with the presence of Titan in the art gallery.
