I am not sure the reason for recommending this place as I found out it is an average boutique selling less of homegrown brands & houses more international brands. One can find those stuffs in any malls under the sun. Plz don’t try their coffee as it was quite bad in taste.

The store is nice and organized in multiple levels and is divided appropriately. It is not a typical departmental store like one would find in any Metro city. It is a great store showcasing stuff from local Pondicherry designers and Auroville. I would recommend it to any one visiting Pondicherry - great place for gifts/soviegners etc.
As well after you treat yourself with some retails therapy, it is has great cafe, must. Relax with tea cuppa or coffee with fresh baked products :)

I am not sure how to describe this store, except, I was very disappointed.
There was very little worth buying at this over priced called store. I tried to buy some jewellery, which on closer inspection was not worth the asking price, as the silver was discoloured and dirty. When I pointed out to the shop assistant that she had not quoted me the sale price, she informed me that she did not have the time to remove the "on sale labels". The on sale labels were all over the jewellery cabinets. I just walked away.
The women's clothing were overpriced and the quality of the garments are not worth the asking price.

This store which used to be a landmark, like a mini mall, but now carries the burden of being a boutique store sans novelty. On my second visit there I saw it all run down with not so friendly staff at some counters, old products, and confused display. Juat go to the second floor and you can find nice hand made pottery , candles and essential oils, however do not go overboard as everything is steeply priced and you may find not so unique stuff at other shops at better prices. Most other things are not worth buying. For one most other things like home linen, bags etc look like export rejects! It is a pity to see the store hasn't evolved with time. The mix is skus is very poor. The store has so much potential, they could start with opening a coffee shop within the store and host some more new handicrafts. Despite the poor selections of items, the store is worth one first visit since its an old store in pondi and you may still find some cute little thing that catches your fancy.

Pondicherry market pic
The beaches of Pondicherry , the Promenade , the old lighthouse , the old port house on the beach ( now Le’ Cafe ) the old customs House and the French quarters with their tree lined boulevards and heritage buildings all add to the beauty and charm of this town. Several scenes in the film ‘Life of Pi’ were shot in Pondicherry.
The other great attraction in Pondicherry is the Aurobindo Ashram ,situated in the heart of the town, and Auroville , which is a township situated about 8 kms from Pondicherry .
The ashram of Sri Aurobindo was founded by the eponymous guru and his follower, the Mother, in 1926. This is also where Shri Aurobindo and the Mother are laid to rest.
Auroville is a township that was proposed and conceived by the Aurobindo Society. It was an experiment in human unity in diversity with people of all nationalities and religion living in a township and researching and practicing sustainable livelihoods. There is an industrial zone in the complex that focuses on developing small scale and medium scale industries.
Pondicherry , as a tourist destination ,owes a lot to the Auroville township. Auroville employs people from all over the world .It manufactures and sells several products including garments, leather bags, pottery, lamp shades, candles, incense , food products and furniture. There are special shops in the town that sell Auroville products .
Another interesting fact is that there are numerous foreign nationals from many European countries who have made Pondichery their home in the past 10 years . They are into designing and manufacturing garments and several other products and retailing and exporting them. It is exciting to see so many designer shops in Pondicherry.
In addition, there are several other shops that stock products from all over India. You can shop for Kashmiri carpets, shawls. silver jewelry from Rajasthan , artefacts from Tibet and Ladakh and many other items.
Pondicherry has evolved into being a wonderful get away town with an interesting and varied shopping experience.

It is a while since I was here, but back then the story was great for high-end quality goods with a European touch. I would not say it is representative for Indian design and artifacts, perhaps more a mixture of this and modern global design. Their Hi-design purses are very well made. I also bought a silk dress which is timeless. But as a tourist, it may be more worth supporting smaller local businesses.
