The flower section is worth a look, fish bit a touch off putting, nice fruit section, limited textiles and seemed monopolised and over priced. Found better material / tops etc in the big sari shops on mission st

This may be quite a small market by Tamil Nadu standards but because of that all the different sections, fish, fruit, vegetables and flowers are housed under one labyrinthine roof.
The colourful stalls seem to go on and on and the whole place is full of energy and life. The fish section is particularly vibrant - all the stalls are run by women and the varieties of dried and fresh fish are huge. We made two visits during our short stay in Pondicherry to take photographs of the cheerful, friendly stallholders and to buy fresh fruit and spices. Quite a visual highlight of Pondicherry.

See the attached photos for your own imagination. Words that I'm writing may not speak that much. The market and Nehru rd are full of stuffs and activities. Fruits. Flowers. Garland. Clothes. Tailors. Boutique. Artificial jewellery. Temple.

I just love Pondicherry, period!
And this market is like a mirror to everything pondicherry had to offer. Do plan to spend some time to walk down the lanes, I am sure you won't regret it :)

We visited this place on the beach road on week end evening when it was crowded and had a good time with street side food and watching the beach. We also visited on Monday morning...there was no crowd..roads are good to see, but it will be terribly sunny and you can't park the car.

To witness what a city has to offer to tourists to buy, weekly markets offers an excellent opportunity.
During my visit to Pondicherry, I have tried to capture the various shades of Sunday Market. It was my second attempt. During my 2 years stay at Pondicherry (2008 - 2010), I have clicked Sunday Market.
During these two years, I used to purchase Readers Digest and DVDs every time I visited Sunday. Today I have a collection of around 250 DVDs / CDs and some 50 Readers Digest !
I wish Bangalore to host such a weekly market to frequent and shop.

This market is located at the corner of Nehru street and Gandhi street junction. This is a very popular market for localites to get fresh vegetables, fruits flowers etc. There is a separate fish market where you can get varieties of fishes. Besides that there are grocery shops and other day to day required item shops also available. This is a big market where you can get everything and can say all in one market. Specially during morning hours it will be too much rush in the market.
