The French War Memorial is Just opposite of Rock beach. They don't allow to enter inside. That was built in 1971 to commemorate the soldiers who died during First World War.

Well maintained but I wish they wouldnt use multi colour lights. Just an uplighter would bring out the best in the monumnet

Very nice memorial in memory of the war. Nice and clean, nicely maintained. Great place overlooking the beautiful promenade.

Place is on the beach superb maintained garden. A view worth watching. I have visited with my family had a great time. Do visit when your are in white town.

It is located on the main promenade and is easily visible from outside. It is beautifully lit and would recommend seeing it if you are on the promenade.

My daughter wanted to visit this place. So we did. And we came back feeling completely clueless - there is no access to the memorial (or we could not find it) - no note, no plaque.. Just a slice of land with a structure in the middle.
You might wonder, well C, what did you expect from this place? - well, we expected something befitting the name "French War Memorial".
We just viewed it from the gate and took a pic. You could show it to your kids as you are finishing your walk on the beach.

It is on the rock beach area in front of the gandhi statue. The entry to the complex is restricted and the only attraction is the architecture.

This is a tribute to soldiers losing their lives in WW one. It is a very simple structure showing a soldier with his gun. The memorial is located on the main promenade and is a place to visit.

Built in French type, it is located at Goubart Avenue in promenade. Just on the walk you can have a look and take pics.

The French War Memorial was constructed in honor of those soldiers who lost their lives in World War I. In the middle of four stark white columns - two on either side - stands a lone life-size statue of a soldier leaning on a rifle. Inscribed above him the words, Aux combattants des Indes Françaises morts pour la patrie, 1914-1918.
The statue is illuminated during the annual commemoration celebrated on July 14th - Bastille Day.

You need to see it from outside. There is a fencing around. There is nothing much to see there. The sea and the road are more interesting.

I like to visit Pondicherry during next December and it will be my first visit to this historic place. I am travelling from Calicut, Kerala by Train. Please give me some helpful tips on the attractions, stay facilities and other useful features of Pondi. I like to stay there two nights. So please suggest me a fine itinerary.

I have visited the White Town in Pondicherry.
To begin with, choose a good stay- there are tonnes of options to choose from, this will make your stay pleasant to some extent.
Places to visit - If you stay in White Town, - Rocky Beach, Promenade, War Memorial, Aurobindo Ashram will be closer to visit, that can be covered in a day
In addition to that, there are other places you can visit which are slightly away from the city: Auroville, Serenity Beach and Paradise beach, you can plan this for a day
If you wish to visit, you could go to the Perumal Temple in the White Town.
If you are here on a Sunday, go see the local flea market, you could shop some items.
Also do not miss to try out the local cafes in town, for the view and also the food!
