NZ Holiday

Great 1 hour return walk along the river from the parking area to the old Railway bridge. Didn't do the full Railway tunnel. Plenty of opportunities to take some great photos.

Lots of choices to choose from! The windows walk is short, with the beginning a steep unholy, but worth

We rode the rail trail from here to Waihi and it was spectacular, I really loved it even the 1k long tunnel was a blast and you don't really need a torch tbh. A super place to take kids and let them go mad. Scenery fab even though it was a dull day

Walked to the ruins, had a good look around reading the info boards, taking awesome photos - take your good camera- lots of cool photo opportunities. Walk as far as you want, or just hang around the ruins. Head up the hill and visit the little museum (does cost) or just take in the scenery.

Having travelled extensively throughout NZ, the Karangahake Gorge and surroundings is the best historical attraction in NZ. I have been doing the walks in this area for about 25 years when it wasn't so popular but now it is. I have studied the history and even when I am just driving through I can hear the noise of the 2000... More

Been there 4 or 5 times. At least once a year. Always good to be there. You can do any type of walk depending on time and your fitness level. Such a peaceful place.

We did a combo of windows walk and tunnel loop. Was a mix of iconic NZ bush, history, adventures in the tunnels and stunning views. A great way to spend a sunny afternoon and get a bit of exercise in a scenic location.

A walk that can be as long as you want, we only did some parts but based on what we saw we will return to do more. Interesting to see the historic remains of buildings and machinery along the walk. The swing bridges and tunnel were fun and all set in beautiful scenery. Information boards added further interest and context.

Did not know what to expect when my wife suggested we stopped here but I have to say, it was a blast. The Gorge alone is worth a stop and see but add to it the abandoned mines, rail lines, ore cars, ruins etc. and it is definitely a unique stop!

I love hiking and this is one that you shouldn't pass. Very easy hike and has insane views from the Gorge. Make sure to walk through the tunnel. It was well over a 1/2 mile long, but it seemed like 5 miles as it's dark, cold and exciting.
